Job description
This position serves to provide in-person interpreting services when required, for caregivers and patients or companions who are Spanish-speaking. Must be able to clearly and accurately interpret between target language and source language for caregivers and patients or companions who use Spanish as their preferred language for discussing healthcare.
- Provides in-person interpreting services for patients when required, when treated in either the inpatient or outpatient hospital setting.
- On occasion and when requested, responds to outpatient physician offices to assist FH physician partners and staff to bridge communication with Spanish-speaking patients/family members.
- Meets with patients, family and staff members and set expectations, as well as provide education on the interpreting services provided, thus minimizing potential confusion that could promote a negative patient experience.
- Periodically ensures all Video Relay Interpreting (VRI) equipment is in operating order, reports any malfunctions for repair to Information Services (IS).
- Captures the numbers of hours for reporting purposes dedicated weekly to patient interpreting services, service recovery.
- Collaborates with Patient Experience Manager to field invoicing and compensate vendors, as required.
- Collaborates with Patient Experience, Patient Safety Officer, and Risk Management to address and respond to patient complaints.
- Communicates with VRI vendor to address any feedback, concerns necessary to improve patient experience.
- Periodically ensures language line translation services are used appropriately and in working order. Monitors staff compliance to workflow specific to translation services.
- Medical/Healthcare Interpreter Education Certificate
- Preferred: CoreCHI, CHI-Spanish, or CMI-Spanish preferred.
