General Description:


K-8 Spanish teachers are members of the school community and participate in faculty and department meetings, communicate with families about learning in world language, complete progress reports annually, and have school-based duties in addition to creating, preparing and delivering instruction. We are looking for an energetic Spanish language educator to join our team during the spring of 2023 to support our program’s mission, vision and goals:


The Brookline World Language Program inspires all students to better understand themselves, each other, and the world by learning another language and its cultures in order to to become more engaged local and global citizens.


The mission of the Brookline K-12 World Language Program is to guide students in their language development and multicultural understanding. Students engage in purposeful communication in a safe, welcoming environment. They learn about themselves, their peers, their community and the world through the use of thematic units that support comprehension.


GOAL 1: Language Development - Students will understand and then produce spoken and written language in order to interact with others. Over time, language will increase in complexity and students will be able to interact in a wider range of situations.


GOAL 2: Understanding Perspectives - Cultural competency is crucial to linguistic proficiency as well as understanding oneself and others. Therefore, students will explore and celebrate the perspectives and practices of multiple cultures including their own. They will apply their cultural understandings to reinforce and expand their knowledge in other academic subjects.


GOAL 3: Community Engagement - Students will become agents of change who are

prepared to serve and lead in their local and global communities. They will be empowered to promote equity and cross-cultural understanding in an increasingly complex world.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Spanish language classes take place in the grade level classrooms; Spanish teachers have the option of a sturdy cart to transport instructional materials, as needed.
  • Spanish language classes require multi-modal instruction via a variety of teacher made materials and realia.
  • Spanish language teachers complete annual progress reports for students.
  • Other duties, supervisions, and assignments as designated by the vice-principals.

Requirements Qualifications:

  • Advanced oral proficiency in Spanish
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the pedagogy for teaching world language to elementary-aged students and young adolescents with an emphasis on oral proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of materials and modes of instruction
  • Demonstrated effective techniques for classroom management
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, colleagues and community members
  • Ability to effectively lead Spanish language classes using 90%-100% target language.
  • Keen organizational skills
  • Comfortability with teaching elementary grades and middle-level grades.
  • Flexibility for changes in assignment, teaching within grade levels in license and up to 20% outside of these.
  • Interest in leading a comprehensive approach to K-8 language learning and language acquisition.
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching licensure: Foreign Language [Spanish] PreK-6, or a combination of Foreign Language [Spanish] 5-12 and Elementary 1-6, or a combination of Foreign Language [Spanish] 5-12 and Early Childhood PreK-2, or Foreign Language [Spanish] PreK-6 and 5-12.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting.
  • Experience teaching students in the United States of America.
  • Dual/multi-certification is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ACTFL proficiency guidelines and ability to design lessons to help learners progress towards performance targets.
  • Strong skills in classroom management and non-classroom management/routines.
  • Experience with social-emotional learning.
  • Collaborative and logical outlook to the school-wide academic and social-emotional vision.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a K-8 school learning model.
