Job description
Under general supervision, the speech language pathologist will assess and treat individuals with a variety of communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders.

Major Duties:

Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Assess patients for communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders using formal and informal measurement tools. Perform modified barium swallow studies. Develop treatment plans based on the assessment results which include functional outcomes. Treat patient's specific deficits following the established treatment plans. Participate as part of an interdisciplinary team to aid in the improvement of the patient's functional abilities. Document interactions with the patient, caregiver and/or other health care workers accurately and timely. Educate the patient and/or their caregiver, other healthcare workers regarding the patient's specific communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing difficulties. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization.

Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Required:
Demonstrated ability to communicate information accurately in verbal and written form. A masters degree in speech-language pathology or its equivalent as determined by the licensure board.

Preferred:
Two years experience in a hospital setting as a speech-language pathologist, working primarily with adults.

Licensure/Certification:

Preferred:
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Required:
Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology; CPR for healthcare workers.
