Summary:
OPPD's Protection and Automation Department is seeking an experienced engineer that provides automation, integration, and control system design and operational support engineering for the District's generation, transmission and distribution facilities, including interties with other utilities and with customer owned energy source facilities. Also provides Intertie Meter (IM) system design and operational support engineering for the District's generation and transmission facilities
Responsibilites:
- Provide design application engineering and operational support engineering for automation, SCADA, integration, and control systems to ensure the adequate and reliable operation of the District's generation, transmission, distribution, and customer owned alternate energy source facilities.
- Support District distribution, transmission, and substation automation efforts including Smart Grid, Distribution Automation, PMU or synchrophasor design and implementation in addition to current automation, integration, and controls solutions.
- Facilitate review of system operations and analysis of system outages and disturbances through development, implementation, and design of integrations systems to ensure continuous and reliable system. Resolve operational control problems on the District's generation, transmission, distribution, and customer owned alternate energy source facilities.
- Provide automation, integration, and control engineering for Distributive Resource interconnection and/or District generation capacity addition/upgrade projects.
- Provide Intertie Meter (IM) system design application engineering and operational support engineering for the District's generation (plant interties) and transmission facilities (at transmission voltage levels) to ensure adequate and reliable intertie metering.
- Support the Department’s mission in areas of Regulatory Compliance.
- Keep abreast of the latest technological advances to ensure that automation, integration, control, and intertie metering systems meet the District's needs.
- Maintain 24 hour availability for technical and professional assistance, emergency response, and direct remedial action in response to emergencies.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Five (5) years of automation, SCADA, integration, and control engineering experience related to substation, transmission, or distribution systems.
- Registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Nebraska or ability to obtain Nebraska registration within 6 months through reciprocity and relevant experience.
Desired:
- Electric Utility engineer experience in areas of protection and/or automation.
- Experienced with converged IT/OT environments.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with co-workers, vendors, and customers (internal and external).
- Self-starting and multi-tasking abilities.
- Ownership and accountability to provide timely, accurate results and openness to improvement and change.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
