Job Title: Sr. Production Editor

General Description:

The Sr. Production Editor is responsible for providing the highest quality production elements possible to department projects. The Sr. production editor determines the product output and keeps the final video product in line with administration’s goals, sees that all members are productive, and resolves problems as they arise. In addition, the sr. production editor is expected to capture the creative direction, as an output of the departmental strategy session, and ensure that the edited product follows suit. The Sr. production editor is also responsible for all editing needs on Chickasaw Heritage Series video projects as well as editing needs on Chickasaw Nation feature films as requested. This position selects the best camera angles, subject matter interviews and coverage footage that relates best to the video scripts associated with the projects. The Sr. production Editor selects visual graphics that are required, assists in sound bed selection and adds final visual touches to produce the highest quality product possible.

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • 1. Projects an image of professionalism and conducts all business efficiently and expediently.
  • 2. Ensures that all editors and production team members receive proper training on editing equipment.
  • 3. Oversees the editing process of the major, high-level video projects within the multimedia department.
  • 4. Works daily through Adobe Premiere editing system.
  • 5. Conducts trainings to other editors on the editing system.
  • 6. Uses creativity and expertise to select and provide instruction on camera angles and camera techniques during filming.
  • 7. Creates compelling video content that informs the public about the Chickasaw Nation.
  • 8. Serves as lead on all Heritage Series and feature film projects and delegates editing needs as appropriate.
  • 9. Translates administration’s objectives into creative work product.
  • 10. Provides guidance/advice to other department editors regarding preparing video content to maintain consistent messaging.
  • 11. Proactively presents ideas and proposals for new video ideas
  • 12. Directs staff on video shoots to select proper angles, shot setup and framing.
  • 13. Responsible for setting the tone and projected feel of each project through final editing.
  • 14. Coordinates video graphic ideas to incorporate into projects
  • 15. Produces remarkable video content designed to attract and engage new audiences
  • 16. Maintains a working knowledge of production equipment and software programs.
  • 17. Stays up-to-date on video editing techniques and features to incorporate into projects.
  • 18. Ingests, selects and saves media properly for historical archival purposes.
  • 19. Serves as primary videographer on high level projects.
  • 20. Proactively presents ideas and proposals for new ideas
  • 21. Challenges team members to generate engaging ideas and exceptional work
  • 22. Manages the senior video editor and editor positions
  • 23. Assists with department-wide projects within communications as needed.
  • 24. Highly organized - prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, plans for additional resources, sets goals and objectives, develops realistic action plans.
  • 25. Provides video editing training to staff as needed for quality production.
  • 26. Researches and produces multiple subjects and projects at the same time.
  • 27. Detail oriented - demonstrates attention to detail
  • 28. Maintains working knowledge and trends on lighting, audio, camera, etc.
  • 29. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with all Chickasaw Nation departments.
  • 30. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required - Understands different audiences and how to edit compelling content for them, as well as the ability to present multiple types of voices and tones. Highly organized - prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, plans for additional resources, sets goals and objectives, develops realistic action plans. Detail oriented - demonstrates attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure, multitask and meet strict deadlines. Ability to work well with all levels of staff and the general public. Must have a working knowledge of Avid, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro systems. Must have proven working knowledge of video production and postproduction workflows. Has practical business experience that allows for a bigger picture view of individual projects and how they fit into the entire communications effort. Ability to concept, present and execute. Act as an exemplary representative of the Creative Services Division in its dealings with internal clients and external vendors with the ability to interact comfortably with executives at highest levels of the Chickasaw Nation. Strong client management skills with flawless follow up. Brings a higher level of consciousness and awareness to the job by providing creative solutions to projects, demonstrating the ability to problem-solve and organize. Experience as a videographer on projects using high-end production camera platforms a must.

Education:

Bachelors Required - Bachelor’s degree in film production or similar field

Education Note:

Training And Experience:

Required Experience (5+ years) - Must have a bachelor’s degree in film production or similar field with five to seven years experience as a video editor with proven industry experience. Prior experience using production grade cameras and editing systems required. Must have proven experience within the post-production process of the video production industry. Must have minimum five years of proven experience in historical documentary video editing in Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro editing software.

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

Required - Background check and valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

Preferred - Ability to load, haul, move and set up heavy gear.
