Senior Software Engineer, Security Automation

HYBRID: Preferred to reside close to one of our locations.

LOCATION: Remote in one of our locations: McLean, Virginia or Indianapolis, Indiana

As a Senior Software Engineer, Security Automation, you will build, manage, and maintain the automation processes and tools within one of the best Managed Detection and Response platforms.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with individuals in Engineering, SOC and Product
• Identify, report, track, and improve efficiency and error rates
• Minimize tedious and/or repetitive tasks
• Manage and create security utilities or tools in code including our SOAR platform

• Identify problems, hot spots, and points of friction based on received requirements, team and department priorities, and analysis of workflows and staff capabilities
• Define requirements and project plans
• Execute and implement projects, document and observe results, and report on outcomes

Technology:

• Experience with managing Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) tools and technologies (e.g. Sentinel, XSOAR/Demisto, Swimlane, Phantom, etc.)
• Proficiency with scripting and automation of processes using Python, Ruby, or similar languages
• Experience with distributed systems including systems administration experience in Linux
• Familiarity with ticketing systems such as Jira or Service Now
• Hands on experience using ELK, Splunk and/or other SIEMs
• Experience with thorough and complete documentation in a wiki system such as Confluence
• Comfortable with Git/version control workflows
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration (CI), Github Actions, etc

Knowledge & Skills:

• Proven and consistent success in a prior similar role
• Ability to recognize and refine requirements of potential solutions
• Experience with diagrams such as flowchart, activity, system and/or decision trees
• Vigilant about quality, security, and privacy with continuous goal of improving the team and customer experience
• Flexibility: Operate efficiently in constantly evolving environments and, when confronted with unforeseen circumstances, readjust priorities to accommodate change.
• Results-driven: Understand results are a priority, and invest the necessary resources and efforts to meet desired goals.
• Analytical Thinking: Break down the fundamental components of a problem or situation, examine the relationship between them, verify all pertinent facts and draw an appropriate conclusion.
• Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate ease in presenting ideas and do so in a dynamic manner with a communication style that facilitates open exchange and is adapted to both audience and context.
• Multitasking: Able to multitask effectively and to shift focus easily and rapidly from one task to another.

Additional Helpful Experience:

• Python for the automation of security operations and incident response processes
• Graylog or similar tool
• Jenkins (or something similar)
• Secure SDLC practices
• Public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
• Terraform
• CI/CD tools such as SaltStack, Chef or Puppet
• Familiarity with the OSI model and general networking such as, TCP/IP, UDP, routing, NAT, and load balancing
• Security certification(s) such as CEH, CISSP, or CISA
• Data science and data analytics experience
