Under general supervision, help perform colorometric nutrient chemistry on lake & stream water including, but not limited to: ammonium, nitrate+nitrite, total nitrogen, orthophosphorus, total hydrolizable phosphorus, particulate phosphorus, and total phosphorus following TERC standard operation procedures by wet chemistry. Utilize various instruments for analyses including Flow-through injection auto analyzer, spectrophotometer, TIC analyzer, Particle Counter, Turbidity meter, pH meter and Gas Chromatograph. Responsible for helping with: sample management, data management, calibration of instruments and recording temperatures of water baths, refrigerators, and freezers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent field.
• Training and experience working with toxic chemicals, reproductive hazards and carcinogens.
• Training and experience making Standards, Standard Reference Solutions and Reagents.
• Experience working with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) principals. Experience with laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

• An ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbally.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

• Experience with laboratory software to track samples and operate instruments.
• Experience working with Cal/OSHA and EPA safety protocols and requirements.
• Experience working on long-term projects.
• Training and experience in aquatic sciences.
