Position Staff Accountant

Plumbing Matters. We make it better.
RWC is a market leader and manufacturer of water solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. RWC’s portfolio of brands includes industry-leading brands: SharkBite® Push-to-Connect plumbing solutions; HoldRite® engineered plumbing and mechanical solutions; Cash Acme® control valves and John Guest® fittings and fluid dispense products; EZ-FLO™ and Eastman™ appliance connectors, supply lines, stop valves and gas connectors.

Position Description

Since 2012, RWC Americas’ revenues have tripled and now make up over 70% of the company’s worldwide consolidated revenues; it expects to more than double those revenues through continued organic and acquisition means in the coming years. With that, the Staff Accountant will maintain the region’s long-lived assets (i.e., fixed assets, right-of-use assets, and intangible assets), lease liabilities, support standard costs within the ERP, and work to improve the organization’s overall financial best practices and analytical capabilities to lead that growth rather than react to it.

The Staff Accountant will report to the Operations Accounting Manager and work closely with the Operations Controller. S/He will interface with members across many functional areas, primarily focused on supporting the dynamic needs of our Operations team throughout the United States. S/He will be responsible for various accounting areas supporting all long-lived assets and lease liabilities accounting activities, including performing monthly close processes, internal and external financial reporting, internal control compliance, and budgeting/forecasting/theoretical costing. The Staff Accountant will also serve as the administrator for the U.S. new capital orders platform and be instrumental in developing and implementing improved processes to achieve more accurate and timely financial reporting that supports the overall business, providing a foundation for escalated growth and continued acquisitions.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Maintain fixed asset, right-of-use asset and intangible asset registers.
  • Accurately calculate and post a variety of journal entries related to month-end including long-lived assets (i.e., fixed assets, right-of-use assets, intangible assets), lease liabilities, certain accruals and reclassifications, expensing of depreciation, amortization and/or prepaid amounts, etc.
  • Collect, organize, track and analyze capital spend, construction work-in-process and leases for multiple sites and functions.
  • Accurately perform control procedures for the team related to journal entry and reconciliation completeness tracking.
  • Prepare reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts, focusing on long-lived assets (i.e., fixed assets, right-of-use assets, intangible assets) and lease liabilities.
  • Assist with analyzing both the balance sheet and the income statement to ensure accuracy; perform variance analysis from budget, forecast, and prior month.
  • Perform fixed asset inventories and internal audits of data related to fixed assets, leases and intangibles.
  • Support Operations Accounting Manager and Operations Controller as needed.
  • Respond to requests from leadership and prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as needed.
  • Document and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Identify potential efficiency improvements throughout the accounting function to increase productivity in the department.
  • Assist with yearly budget process and quarterly forecast updates.
  • Prepare supporting documentation as needed for annual audits and tax preparation.
  • Work with other departments as assigned to create and enhance monthly cost center reviews to enhance the accuracy of actual results and forecasting capabilities.
  • Analyze data and procedures for opportunities to improve financial controls and reduce cost to the business.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of ad hoc reports that will be critical in the assessment of various business decisions and investments.

Ideal Candidate Requirements/Attributes

The desired candidate will be a passionate, high-performance individual who has a demonstrated history of performing diverse and agile accounting functions in a manufacturing enterprise in a public company environment. The Staff Accountant will strive to be a business partner, with a grounding in compliance and fiduciary responsibilities. The Staff Accountant will be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, excited to problem-solve and work with ambiguity and autonomy. S/He will thrive being a part of a high-performing team of a growing company. S/He will be able to use sound judgment in decision making and work with a sense of urgency. The Staff Accountant should be comfortable taking on new tasks and responsibilities while also maintaining routine best practices and operations, increasing documentation around procedures, and learning new “ways of working” as RWC continues to invest in its financial reporting and analytical capabilities. Strong communication skills highly preferred due to the variability of the business partner range of influence. S/He must be willing to travel as needed (travel will likely be 15-25 percent on an annual basis).
