Division Specific Information

Our Electrical Failure Analysis (EFA) business is part of the Material and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) and designs and produces world-class tools used by scientists and engineers to drive semiconductor innovations around the globe.

The Position


The Staff Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design and integration of control electronics for semiconductor diagnostic systems. These products are sophisticated electro-mechanical systems that employ charged particle optics, nano positioning and other technologies for imaging and device characterization. The system elements under electronic control include: precision mechanical positioning systems, pre-amplifiers and signal processing; process gas delivery; charged particle beam focusing and deflection elements; electron detection, laser scanning microscopes; IR imaging, ..

Specific Work associated with this opportunity include

  • Design, integrate, test, and debug electronic controls to meet product performance goals (including motion control, low noise and low leakage switching, sensors, pressure and temperature control, signal detection, )
  • Design electronic PCB circuits applying Altium CAD tools for schematic entry, design simulation, and layout
  • Conduct system-level configuration of electronics architectures
  • Debug and fix existing electronic designs including hands-on debug activities such as noise suppression and grounding schemes
  • Ensure compliance, including electromagnetic compatibility and immunity, for electrical subsystems
  • Design and implement electronic architectures, power, and grounding systems
  • Conduct system level integration for highly-integrated semiconductor capital equipment tools
  • Interact directly with manufacturing for product documentation and vendor interactions that support the production and deployment of new or next-generation systems designs
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. BS degree and 10+ years of experience or MS degree and 5+ years of experience
  • 5+ years combined board and system level design, debug and deployment
  • PCB designs from feasibility through to manufacturing with minimal support infrastructure. Must be proficient in EDA software tool(s), layout is a plus
  • Understanding and experience with low level analog signal processing (pA, uV)
  • Feedback and high precision control systems
  • Hands-on integration and testing of electro-mechanical systems (embedded electronics including FW and FPGA, motion control, thermal control, fluidic systems, etc)
  • Hands on experience producing measurements using laboratory test equipment (e.g. signal generators, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers,…)Self-motivated, organized, customer focused with excellent written and communication skills
