The Tanzu Kubernetes Platform team is at the heart of the Tanzu mission, expanding beyond traditional datacenter technologies to support our customers building for any app, any device, and any cloud.

In this role, you'll get opportunities to work with engineering teams across our products to solve challenging problems, show technical leadership and implement new features to enhance testability and debuggability of the products.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

• Design and implement new features in one or more of the Open Source projects included in Tanzu like sonobuoy and crash-diagnostics.

• Improve the overall experience of contributing to the projects by improving onboarding documentation, mentoring and reviewing code by other contributors in the community.

• Stay on top of the features and bug fixes that impact VMWare customers and contribute them to the Open Source project.

• Provide guidance to internal teams on how to improve testability and debuggability of our products so that the experience of triaging and debugging issues can be enhanced.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

• Design and implement features, triage, review and respond to incoming issues and pull requests, ensure high code quality and correctness through testing and factoring, and maintain documentation, release notes, etc for the Open source project(s) that you maintain.

• Participate in community discussions around the open source project by participating in the Kubernetes slack, mailing lists and meetings.

• Collaborate with internal teams, product management and the community to build the product roadmap and define release requirements.

• Help the integration of your Open Source projects to VMware products such as Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and Tanzu Mission Control.

• Answer questions and address issues for VMware customers involving your Open Source projects.

• Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback.

• Mentor, provide direction and guidance to junior engineers and new contributors to the project.

• Work closely with the open source team and internal teams to ensure that the build and test pipelines for community and VMWare are functioning properly and enabling the developers to contribute with confidence to the project.

The hiring manager for this role is Winnie Kwon, Engineering Manager in TKP Open Source Engineering and Community Management team. The team consists of engineers and community managers participating in many open source projects.

Where is this role located?
Remote: This role is fully remote, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable, or the location agreed upon with your hiring manager. You will be expected to live within a number of time zones from your team as defined by your business.
