We have a number of Staff Nurse opportunities here at the Mater Hospital. The successful candidate will help to ensure that a caring, creative environment is achieved, paying attention to the highest possible quality of nursing care. The staff nurse will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of nursing care practiced in the hospital.

Our Nurses work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team along with Health Care Assistants, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Porters, Occupational Therapists, Radiographers, Catering Staff and Administration staff.

The Cardiothoracic area is a dynamic area to work as the center of excellence in treating cardiac disease for much of Ireland. Nurses who are interested in a cardiothoracic career pathway should be detail- orientated and work well as part of a Multidisciplinary team. Cardiothoracic nurses should have a calm demeanor and work well under pressure in this high pressured acute setting.

As cardiology continues to evolve, and new technology’s progress, nurses who work in the cardiothoracic area have the opportunity to enjoy learning and stay up to date with the latest technology in this speciality. There will be opportunities for experienced surgical nurses with a special interest in cardiothoracic to have the necessary support and training to start on this new career pathway.
