The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic organisation and be part of a multidisciplinary team that continues to develop its services in conjunction with Brothers of Charity Services Policies. Post 1: Permanent Full-Time (75 hours per fortnight) – 2 posts

Post 2: Specified Purpose contract to cover maternity leave (75 hours per fortnight)

Post 3: Specified purpose contract for 1 year (44.4 hours per fortnight)

Location: St. Patrick’s Upton, Innishannon, Co. Cork

Post 4: Permanent Full-Time (75 hours per fortnight)
Location: Community Residential Services, Bandon, Co. Cork

Post 5: Permanent Full-Time (75 hours per fortnight) – 2 posts
Post 6: Permanent Full-Time Nights (75 hours per fortnight) – 1 post
Location: Cork Cit y. A panel will be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Staff Nurse appointments (including part-time relief posts) within our Cork City and County (Bandon / Innishannon, Co. Cork) Services will be made over the next 12 months.

The Role
As part of a team, provide holistic support to people with an intellectual disability in their residential service, day service and within their community. The person/s appointed should be flexible in their approach to service provision and should have the ability to work as part of a team. They will be required to take an active part in ensuring that the day to day operations of the service reflect the ethos and vision of the Brothers of Charity and that the needs of the individuals they support are met through Person Centred Planning.

The Candidate
  • Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.
Candidates must:
  • Have a relevant nursing qualification (preferably Registered Intellectual Disability - RNID) & registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland - (NMBI) - An Bórd Altranais or be entitled to be so registered; and
  • Have the clinical and administrative capacity to property discharge the functions of the role.
  • Post holders must maintain annual registration with An Bord Altranais
  • Possess a good knowledge of supporting people with an Intellectual Disability/ Autism
  • Demonstrate initiative, good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • It is highly desirable that applicants would have experience working with and supporting people with an Intellectual Disability / Autism / Vulnerable adults
  • Possess a full clean Driver’s licence which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads
  • Age
The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.
* Public Servants not affected by this legislation:
Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age.

Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70.
  • Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
  • Character
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Salary Scale: €32,042 - €49,368 per annum (1/2/22 PSPP Consolidated Scales) Pro-rata for part-time hours)
