The Stationary Engineer will be responsible for the appropriate operation and maintenance of all physical plant equipment. The Engineer starts, stops, adjusts, tests, and regulates equipment in accordance with current industry standards and hospital policies and procedures. The position records information on appropriate record forms and logs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • City of Chicago Operating Engineer license.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Stationary Engineer.
  • Completion of apprenticeship at St. Bernard Hospital is acceptable in lieu of one year of experience.

Responsibility Highlights

  • Start, stop and monitor operation of all plant equipment.
  • Service equipment making necessary adjustments.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services on equipment.
  • Investigate and corrects problem situations.
  • Maintain logs and records per hospital and industry standards.
  • Chemically treat boiler feed water to prevent harmful boiler deposits.
  • Repair, build, and install pumps, motors, and related assemblies.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs and maintenance related to emergency repair of building services.
  • Make scheduled and special rounds of the facility as needed.
  • Communicate with Director of Engineering on operations, problems, and other occurrences which impact other shifts or departments.
  • Observe the regulation of all governing authorities in the performance of assigned duties.
  • May assist other staff in handling materials and on major repair and installation projects.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings (blue prints).
  • Perform housekeeping tasks in Boiler Room and other Engineering areas as needed.
