Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital, a part of Fairview Health Services, is currently seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Tech Cross Train to Clinic Supply and Instrument Technician to join our team!

POSITION: Sterile Processing Technician Cross Train to Clinic Supply and Instrument Technician

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time .5-.8 FTE (40-64 hours per pay period)

WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings/Nights

JOB SUMMARY: Provides support services by cleaning and sterilizing instruments per AAMI and AORN standards and manufacturer guidelines, maintaining equipment and supply stock, and delivery of appropriate supplies/equipment to the appropriate units or operating room suites.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the safe operation following manufacturer's guidelines on the equipment used in the processing of surgical instrumentation. Responsible for accurate documentation and retention of the sterilization/disinfection records required following current policy and procedure.
  • Tracking Operating Room turnover and cleaning OR rooms between cases per policy.
  • Maintain knowledge of proper disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Cleaning and decontamination of instruments following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Accurately reassemble sets and single instruments.
  • Proper wrapping of supplies, packs, etc. following current standards for sterility monitoring.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of equiptment and supplies at al times.
    • Responsible for daily supply order from Materials Management.
    • Responsible for weekly supply order.
    • Responsible for filling orthopedic sets (screws).
  • Report and issues or discrepancies to the Director.
  • Prepares and restocks case carts for the OR cases.
  • Participates in professional growth and self-development activities to ensure accountability for own professional practice.
  • Participates in staff meetings, committees, and special projects; actively contributes to Surgical Services quality and development
  • May be scheduled as a sterile processing float daily, as applicable, and responsible for Operating Room turnover, specimen transport, endoscope cleaning, and other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Round each unit every a.m. and p.m. to check supplies of needles, pap supplies, and other equpitment and supplies needed to provide care to patients.
  • Stock clean utility rooms with needles and syringes, clean and stock procedure rooms, assist nurses to keep exam rooms stocked. Keep utility rooms cleaned and organized including drawers and cupboards.
  • Empty sharp containers, and empty biohazard buckets in procedure rooms as needed.
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked exam rooms and procedure rooms to ensure timely patient service. Ensure there is an adequate supply of non-stock items. Maintain clipboard on each clean utility cart so that needed supplies are written down and ordered. Maintain supply stock sufficient to avoid running out. Communicate with materials Management representative to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Stock juice in each of the care units.
  • complete weekly clinic procedure room supply order form.
  • Assist nurses to ensure the exam rooms are adequately stocked with needed supplies.
  • understand procedures for cleaning spills, etc. and is able to follow through on as needed basis, assuring no risk of safety violations or hazards.
  • Follows established safety procedures when handling sharp and/or patient specimens.
  • Helps keep track of supplies and follows established guidelines for ordering supplies (i.e. inform purchasing person/ write on order sheet).


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in sterile processing, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • BLS Certification to be completed within two months of employment.
  • Minimum of one-year sterile processing experience within the past five years preferred.
  • Ability to work rapidly in constantly changing situations.
  • Must be able to learn clinic flow/processes to support the nurses and providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance** If no candidates meet the above requirements, consideration will be given to those with 1 year of other health care related experience and/or experience/education that includes training in principles, methods, and sterilization processes including care and handling of surgical instrumentation and/or aseptic technique principles, sterile goods and equipment, and/or High school graduate or equivalent. Required to obtain certification in Sterile Processing within the first year of employment.
