General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2,600-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power station in the village of Cheshire, Ohio, United States. It is owned by Lightstone Generation LLC, a 50–50 joint venture of the

Blackstone Group L.P. and ArcLight Capital Partners.


The Strategic Business Manager is responsible for the strategic functions of the power plant.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fully implement Safety and Environment over production policies
  • Adherence to the Company Code of Business Conduct and Ethics policies ensuring that the Company and all employees hold integrity as our paramount value, commit to excellence, and respect each other and the people with whom we deal.
  • Ensure the station complies with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permits including all NERC rules.
  • Complete environmental corrective action and improvement plans and receive approval from Lightstone Management
  • Establish and reinforce through personal example the Lightstone Operating Principles
  • Constantly challenge the status quo, creativity required.
  • Be integral part of succession planning: Provide leadership in personnel development through workforce planning, succession planning and training opportunities. Identification and training of leadership successors.
  • Help develop single point failure analysis. Develop Process and Equipment GAP Analysis.
  • Help develop long-term critical maintenance plan. Develop 20-year Critical Equipment Plan.
  • Authorize and execute contracts and approve transactions in accordance with Company Delegation of Authority (DOA) policy.
  • Supports station leadership in the development and execution of station objectives. Will be responsible for developing and communicating monthly KPIs relative to station defined objectives.
  • Enhance training programs.
  • Be Leader the development and administration of the O&M and capital budgets on an annual basis and develop 6-year budget plans.
  • Champion the station business plan process and its linkage to the performance management process and employee bonus program.
  • Provide oversight and direction to plant’s environmental stewardship effort through effective use of the Environmental Monitoring System.
  • Ensure alignment of all individual, team, and station goals with the business plan and corporate goals.
  • Provide oversight of and direction to all critical programs and processes such as safety, environmental stewardship, performance management, outage management, project management, asset integrity and financial management, effective safety programs to minimize accidents and industrial hygiene exposure and ensure that the plant maintains regulatory compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations and associated permits.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening the relationship between the plant operations and Lightstone’s Commercial team.
  • Create an environment that fosters good morale and a collaborative relationship between union and management.
  • Communicate daily plant KPI’s to the plant management team.
  • Work with the accounting group and Process Owners to ensure detailed and accurate O&M and Capital budgets are developed and maintained.
  • Responsible to ensure all project planning standard work is completed including Management of Change and Integration Checklist for Major projects
  • Makes decisions on complex issues regarding project components and advanced tasks.
  • Lead for any plant business development projects as required.
  • Highly skilled professional with wide-ranging, advanced technical experience to resolve complex issues.
  • Competent to work at very high level in multiple knowledge areas or functions as an advanced contributor.
  • Lead the plant communication team responsible for communication throughout the plant. Including creating the message and Via email, SharePoint, leadership meetings, etc.
  • Responsible to lead the GV excellence plan and regularly communicate the status to the plant
  • Identifies opportunities to develop new processes, tools, services, and techniques within the function.
  • Lead root cause policy/procedure process. Identify opportunities for root cause. This role has authority to make assignments as necessary to ensure corrective actions are completed as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring plant is on track to meet root cause goals and action tracker execution
  • Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Independently selects methods, techniques, analytical approach and evaluation criteria.
  • Trains and mentors’ employees on technical skills.
  • Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve significant issues, clarify, or interpret complex information, provide initial screening/negotiations. Routine contact with representatives internal and external to Gavin Power LLC.
  • Responsible to provide staff unit startup coverage.
  • Responsible to provide backup support for Operations, Maintenance, and/or Technical Services Mangers as required.
  • Maintains an understanding of the overall station business model, to include VOM, Gross Margins, Fuels, etc.
  • Self-motivated to identify task that need to be completed.
  • Maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity in all dealings with or on behalf of Lightstone.
  • Maintain strong work ethic, high motivation, the ability to work with minimal guidance, and the desire to work and succeed in a rigorous and challenging business environment.
  • Create ability to work effectively in a team environment; respect and leverage individual differences and provide open and candid communications; perform all duties in a civil, courteous, and cooperative manner.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering/business or equivalent field experience.
  • 10+ years of power plant or industrial experience.
  • Diverse background of skills including operations and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of Good Business Practice, financial practices and procedures preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skill with potential for future advancement.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively.
  • General software knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint…etc.) Accounting/Purchasing/Inventory Software.
