Department Profile
The Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Units include: complex medicine, joint replacement, orthopedics, observation, neuroscience, oncology, primary care, specialty surgery, nursing rehab units, acute care for the elderly (ACE), cardiac telemetry, cardiovascular telemetry, vascular, trauma, short stay and dialysis units. These units value the art and science of nursing and offer a high level of interaction with patients and families.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the VP of Emergency/Trauma/Stroke Services, follows established policies and procedures, gathers and records all necessary information, interviews patients to obtain demographic and confidential clinical and financial information necessary to appropriately schedule, register, obtain treatment authorizations, and verify insurance eligibility and corresponding benefit levels for patients within TGH Epilepsy Program. Oversees and supervises the data abstraction and entry of clinical and financial data into Stroke Registry, the processing of medical records within Neurodiagnostics Lab and forwarding of completed medical records to Medical Records for coding. Maintains supply of educational materials for stroke & epilepsy patients. Orders supplies for Neurodiagnostics Lab. Coordinates, updates, and generates monthly, quarterly, ad hoc, and annual reports for the performance improvement program for both the Epilepsy and Stroke Programs, as required for the Joint Commission Disease-specific programs, as well as the requirements for State designated Comprehensive Stroke Center designation. TGH contact for Stroke Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) Outcomes Science Registry. May work directly with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, insurance carriers and other external professionals to assist patients in obtaining health care and financial services. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a G.E.D. or high school diploma. Comprehensive knowledge of computer information system and hospital computer programs. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Ability to maintain highly complex records and prepare reports from a variety of information sources. Knowledge and experience regarding insurance requirements and patient registration preferred. Previous experience in medical and hospital settings preferred. Good communication and interpersonal skills required. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
