ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY


SUMMARY: The Summer Research Assistant will work under the supervision of Dr. Breanna Binder, Principal Investigator of the NSF-supported Launching Early Academic Career Pathways (LEAPS) award.


SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

The research assistant will assist Dr. Binder in the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of observations of X-ray binary populations in nearby galaxies. Specifically, the research assistant will assist Dr. Binder in all aspects of the project including but not limited to: developing software pipelines to automate reduction of X-ray observations from the Chandra X-ray Observatory; detecting and characterizing the observed X-ray sources; developing software for measuring the properties of the X-ray binary populations; presenting results in both written format (preparing a manuscript for submission to a peer-reviewed journal) and oral format (preparing posters to present at national conferences).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a currently enrolled physics major with previous research experience analyzing Chandra observations.
