Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is a social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless since 1998. Founded in Austin, Texas, the organization serves its homeless neighbors through three core programs: Truck Ministry, Community First! Village, and Community Works. Often referred to as the most talked about neighborhood in Austin, Community First! Village is a 51-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness. We are now embarking on a new phase of community expansion, adding more than 1400 new neighbors over the next 5-10 years.
About the role
Community First! Village is a 51-acre master-planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the chronically homeless in Travis County. The Neighbor Care Team has the privilege of walking alongside our "neighbors" as they apply to live at Community First! Village and to provide an opportunity for them to settle, cultivate, and care for themselves and others in this unique community. The Supportive Services Manager is an integral part of the Neighbor Care team. The primary role of the Supportive Services Manager is to enrich the lives of the neighbors at Community First! Village through managing a team that provides direct care for our neighbors. The Supportive Services Manager will work with Neighbor Care staff and onsite partners to help neighbors connect with the support that they need.
This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Assistant Director of Neighbor Care. Due to the nature and requirements of the position, hours are flexible to fit needs, but typically include 8 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. Some nights and weekends may be required. The Supportive Services Manager will office at Community First! Village is located at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deepen and develop upon Neighbor Care's vision of creating a culture for neighbors to settle, cultivate, and care for themselves and others
- Encourage a culture of care amongst our neighbors, partners, and the outside community
- Build and deepen personal relationships with our formerly homeless neighbors
- Facilitate relationships between neighbors and other individuals (staff, missional neighbors, volunteers, service providers, etc.)
- Supervise up to 10 social worker interns' year annually
- Oversee team the response of connecting and facilitating services and resources to neighbors
- Assist and support with responding to neighbor concerns reported by staff, other neighbors, and/or volunteers and address concerns with appropriate care
- Manage Neighbor Care Navigator, Community Transport Driver, and Healthy Home Coach(s)
- Follow up with neighbors who need additional care
- Lead Neighbor Care Alignment Meetings that pull all onsite partners together to brainstorm solutions for neighbors with high/complex needs
- Lead Medical Transfer team in responding to accommodation requests
- Conduct onboarding appointments with neighbors interested in Dignified Income Opportunities
- Collaborate with Neighbor Care leadership to help empower the Neighbor Care team in fully understanding and implementing our mission, vision, and values
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings with partner agencies
- Meet with Neighbor Care managers and leadership
- Attend regularly scheduled staff, Goodness Group, and Neighbor Care team meetings
- Assist MLF and Neighbor Care team in achieving our goals, especially caring for neighbors
- Assist Neighbor Care leadership and other departments as needed
- Other Duties & Responsibilities as needed
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals
- The successful candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about the nonprofit/social sector and MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals
- LMSW or LCSW is required
- 3 - 5 years of management experience
- Experience with supervising social work interns
- Previous experience working with the homeless or other vulnerable populations preferred
- Demonstrate knowledge, experience, and effectiveness in serving and advocating for people who have been disenfranchised, including people of color, people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, people who have experienced long-term homelessness, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and/or people living with mental illness or substance abuse disorder.
- Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented
- Strong aptitude for problem-solving
- Skilled in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Canva
- Excellent customer service and people skills
- Ability to greet the public in a cheerful and helpful manner
- Positive attitude, interest, enthusiasm, team player, good sense of humor, and stamina
- Ability to work joyfully and connect with diverse populations and organizations
- Demonstrates integrity and strives for excellence in her/his work
- A collaborative spirit and ability to work well individually as well as part of a team
- Action oriented-enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Good listening skills
- Must have patience, compassion, and professionalism
- A "Semper Gumby" approach with shifting Covid precautions and regulations regarding neighbor events
- Must have a valid driver's license
