Job description
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a diverse public body, Grangegorman Development Agency (GDA) responsible for the regeneration of a major urban site with Dublin city centre. The successful candidate can contribute to a dynamic and supportive environment, balancing complex demands associated with multiple and concurrent public works projects on behalf of major stakeholders; HSE, TU Dublin, Department of Education, and the existing and emerging communities of the Grangegorman neighbourhood.
This role offers the right candidate an opportunity work with the Agency to develop, support and strengthen sustainable activity across all areas.
Sustainability is well established as one the GDA’s five core values; this is reflected in the Grangegorman Masterplan as well as a robust and evolving Sustainability Strategy. The Sustainability Coordinator will be central to elevating sustainability further and embedding it into the culture and systems of the Agency.
The ideal candidate will have the drive and passion for, a detailed understanding of, and an appropriate level of up-to-date expertise in, Sustainability and Climate and Bio-Diversity Action as they relate to the role and functions of the Agency, in particular construction related embodied and operational carbon.
Strategic
  • Evaluate and advise the Agency on the direction and development of sustainability strategies and propose adaptations and improvements as they may arise.
  • The GDA Sustainability Coordinator will lead the delivery of Sustainability Strategy across all functional areas of the Agency to ensure the Agency is best equipped and structured to fulfil its duty in addressing the Climate and Bio-Diversity emergencies, including all legislative and national / EU policy requirements.
  • Identify and manage strategic risks, opportunities, and priorities as they may arise and be relevant to the work and mission of the Agency.
  • Keep up to date of changes to standards and legislation and where applicable recommend changes

Delivery
  • Co-ordinate the definition of appropriate targets and the tracking, measuring and evaluation of agreed targets to support the implementation of Strategy;
  • Procure and manage specialist support services in environmental and sustainability areas as required;
  • Support Project Co-ordinators in the review of environmental aspects of project designs and project proposals;
  • Develop and implement change management strategies;
  • Support the integration of agreed sustainability requirements into briefing, procurement and contract documentation;
  • Establish and implement strategies for the measuring and tracking of progress at both Project and broader Agency levels.

Engagement and Culture
  • Engage and collaborate as appropriate with Stakeholders;
  • Engage and collaborate as appropriate with leading public and private sector bodies; and represent and promote the activities of the Agency at conferences and third party events;
  • Contribute to and/ or organise training programmes for the Agency
Reporting
  • Develop, contribute to and deliver sustainability reporting, at times addressing audiences of varying levels of interest and understanding;
  • Assist in the development of key performance indicators and report on the delivery of these;
  • Report out on targets achieved for Board, Annual Report and other bodies as required.

All of the above are to be in line with the Agency’s Strategic Plan, including the land use Masterplan and SDZ Planning Scheme.
In addition to their specific portfolio, the appointee will also work as part of the overall GDA team in the delivery across all phases and aspects of the development on the Grangegorman site carrying such other functions and tasks related to the post as may be necessary or required by the GDA.
Note: The functions and responsibilities assigned to this position are based on the current stated role and may be changed from time to time. The GDA will require that the appointee be sufficiently flexible to fulfil other associated roles and responsibilities at a similar level within the GDA.
