The Compl AML Intelligence Grp Mgr is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. Leads and directs a team of professionals. Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact in order to achieve the objectives of the function. Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication may be necessary. Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning. Primarily affects a sub-function. Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area. Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a mentor to more junior team members globally and to encourage consistent understanding of policies and procedures and strategic direction.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on AML concerns. Compile documentation by reviewing recent news, court documents and public/private sector white papers.
  • Oversee appropriate collection and analysis of documents to obtain a complete global understanding of the client and identify unusual transaction patterns. Additionally, provide guidance to analysts on best and most effective documentation approach for clear and concise case documentation supporting final disposition.
  • Identify and research high risk areas / typologies and trigger events for risk severity and sensitivity evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively to analyze and review typologies to establish review processes.
  • Manage and influence data analysts as they gather data from prior AML investigations, subpoenas, and prior escalations to detect trends and “connect the dots” amongst disparate data sets. Help prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and recommend relationship retention or termination.
  • Determine suitable data access requirements, the extent of data sharing access and restrictions in collaboration with the Data Privacy Office and designing, with support from Global and Regional partners, the data mining analytics strategies for detecting suspicious transactional and customer activity.
  • Escalate to Investigative units, Risk advisory or Stakeholders if needed.
  • Act as a team lead, manage a team of analysts who perform all of these basic duties.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years relevant experience
  • AML certification /Advanced degree preferred.

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred

The Global Financial Crimes Investigations and Intelligence’s (GFCII) mission is to create an integrated approach to the prevention and detection of financial crime by identifying vulnerabilities and mitigating risks to the bank. Provide appropriate feedback through strategic analysis and leverage synergies across functions to create a holistic view of financial crimes.

The Global Financial Crimes Investigations and Intelligence unit’s expanded mission (e.g., Cyber Crime, AB&C, Sanctions, AML, Fraud, Cryptocurrency), high-risk geographies and integrated Cyber Crime/Data Intelligence Function will require a synchronized operational approach across the Financial Crimes umbrella.

The Global Coordination Team Lead (TL) is responsible for supervising a group of 6 or more investigative analysts and for coordinating complex multi-region, multi-country and multi-business cases. In this capacity, they will provide leadership and direction to relevant GFCII regional offices as they initiate focused investigations concerning significant Financial Crimes risks. This position is also responsible for conducting global meetings to leverage individual findings and prepare consolidated findings in support of final recommendations.

The Global Coordination TL exercises global responsibility by assuring their assigned analysts properly coordinate with regional Analysts to verify that regional investigations have considered relevant information and are complete, accurate and timely. The TL receives periodic briefings on progress and findings of regional investigations and oversees the global and regional preparation of escalations appropriately, for presentation to the GFCII Global Head or GC, and thereafter to other stakeholders as directed. The TLs have overall responsibility for coordination of the uniform treatment of customers across regions related to the cases of their assigned analysts.

Requirements of this position include the ability to proactively identify and mitigate significant global Financial Crimes risk through the creation of Special Initiatives designed to capture Citi exposure from significant external events to include terror attacks and public corruption and projects which are thematic groupings of investigations focused on products, high risk jurisdictions, business lines to assess the internal control environment. These Special Initiatives are often developed through liaison with external law enforcement entities who assist in the identification of money laundering and/or terrorist finance typologies and mitigation of AML and terrorist financing risks to Citi.

Responsibilities:

  • Play a critical Global Coordination role by continuously engaging with the regional teams to ensure a timely case progression, disposition, escalation, closure and feedback.
  • Responsible to lead and/or respond to high priority matters involving significant events/negative news initiated by Legal, Law Enforcement and Senior Management and above.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, oversight and guidance to their respective analytical team.
  • Spearhead strategic initiatives on process restructuring and/or productivity enhancements by engaging with internal and external stakeholders globally.
  • Act as a mentor to junior team members globally and ensure a consistent understanding of GFCII’s policies and procedures and strategic direction.

Qualifications:

  • Eight to ten plus years of professional work experience that includes writing, presenting, and past experiences managing relationships with diverse managers
  • Prior management Experience
  • Five plus years’ experience in reviewing customer transactions and information for potentially suspicious activity and performing AML related investigations
  • Five plus years’ experience in reviewing and approving Know Your Customer (KYC) files for complex banking products, performing analysis of customer information/transactions, and preparing Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
  • Knowledge of the laws applicable to money laundering, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), The USA Patriot Act, OFAC, FinCEN requirements, and Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) requirements
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Excellent research skills including experience with online research tools
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Able to multitask and complete projects on time

Education:

  • Bachelors (Four Year University) Degree or equivalent experience required
  • Master’s degree preferred
