Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Scientist to join our Ashland Specialties Ireland Limited business at our biopolymer R&D and manufacturing facility in Mullingar, Ireland. This position will report to R&D Team Leader.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- To design and carry out laboratory experiments that support R&D projects / new product concepts for specialty biomaterials including synthetic polymers, hydrogels, etc.
- To troubleshoot and develop solutions for current challenges in production or in-market performance, working with, and supporting technical, production, marketing and sales personnel.
- To work flexibly, primarily laboratory based, on varied polymer development projects, both short and longer term.
- To manage technical service requests from customers in the form of end use applications research for pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
- To conduct, develop and validate analytical methods related to characterisation of biopolymer properties.
- To support the scale up of new products and processes.
- To record, analyse, and accurately write up and present the results of laboratory experiments.
In order to be qualified for this role, you
must possess the following:
- either a PhD in a directly relevant field, or a BSc/MSc in a chemistry/polymer related subject with at least 2 years’ industry experience in a directly relevant field. Relevant experience/fields include:
- polymer synthesis, especially ring-opening polymerisation of cyclic esters;
- polymer processing within a pharma or med-tech environment
- long-acting injectable drug products
- Detailed knowledge and experience in the field of advanced drug delivery systems and the polymers/excipients used in these systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, being fluent in English.
- A team player mentality, but one who is also able to work independently
- A willingness to work in a laboratory environment in a hands-on role.
- The ability to think broadly and contribute to a range of problem-solving challenges and to contribute to wider polymer project concepts.
- An ability to work under pressure and organise your work to meet time bound deadlines.
- Knowledge of how to search, review and identify key learnings from scientific or patent literature.
The following skill sets are
preferred by the business unit:
- Experience with polymeric/lipid nanoparticle formulations
- Experience with in-vitro drug release methods for long-acting dosage forms
