The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office System Administrator is responsible for performing hardware server setup. Install and configure the operating system, new releases and upgrades. Monitor and maintain computer systems. Determine the proper configurations for systems. Test programs to ensure efficiency. Maintain the protection of data. Configure user directories. Execute backup processes for data systems. Identify necessary equipment purchases. Configure system resources. Provide high level of support directly to customer base to resolve their individual, group, department or enterprise with solutions. Support basic functions of virtual infrastructure and blade server.

Description:
***This is a salaried position. Current salary range, depending on qualifications, is $82,743 - $118,205 annually.***

Maintain the day-to-day operations of servers, hardware, operating systems, security and data protection. Develop and implement new and follow existing maintenance processes and procedures. Identify any issues or problems and resolve them.
Under general supervision, research, develop, test and implement technologies of software and hardware. Perform intermediate hardware server setup. Install and configure the operating system, new releases and upgrades. Determine impacts of new releases and upgrades. Determine a test plan to ensure quality results.
Research, develop, test, implement and manage users, groups, applications, systems directories and files on server platforms. Grant access permissions. Ensure compliance with security standards.
Configure and define system resources. Determine appropriate configuration parameters. Determine proper administration tools to implement the new configurations.
Research, develop and execute backup and recovery processes for all data systems. Ensure compliance with existing backup and recovery process standards. Determine which files should be backed up.
Collect information for capacity forecasts. Determine current systems utilization and make recommendations regarding system growth. Determine equipment specifications for purchase.
Monitor, tune, diagnose and resolve intermediate operating system problems. For complex systems, develop and implements new and follow existing maintenance procedures. Identify any issues or problems and resolve them.
Develop and implement intermediate scripts to automate common functions or system operations.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred - Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), VMware Certified Professional, UNIX/LINUX certification, Certified Network Engineer, Certified GroupWise Admin, Certified Network Admin.
