The Barry Robinson Center is a premier behavioral health system dedicated to improving the lives of children since 1933. We offer residential treatment care from our campus in Norfolk, VA. We are seeking a full-time Teacher Assistant for our fully-accredited school. Responsibilities include providing support in the classroom setting, lesson planning, as well as assisting in instruction and helping to create an environment conducive to learning while meeting the students' behavioral and academic needs.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 am until 3:30 pm

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field (a combination of education and years of experience working with children may be considered without a bachelor's degree)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, staff members, and students
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • COVID-19 Policy: New Hires must provide a copy of the proof that they are fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccine prior to hire

Duties:

  • Assist teacher in providing daily educational services that meet the needs of the students
  • Assist in developing lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of the current student population
  • Assist in implementing lesson plans in order to provide daily education services using techniques and strategies such as 1:1, small groups and whole groups
  • Maintaining a clean, neat and organized classroom
  • Help with both informal and formal assessments in order to plan for student academic and behavioral needs
  • Providing ongoing supervision of students as assigned
  • Assisting the teacher in maintaining daily behavior log to provide data to update monthly treatment plans, and to plan for the needs of the students.
