**ADDITIONAL STIPEND PER DAY WILL BE PROVEDED, in addition to salary**
New York Center for Child Developmentis looking for a CPSE 1:1 Teacher Aide for our center-based self-contained CPSE classroom. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking for classroom experience and mentorship, in a special education preschool environment.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Classroom/childcare experience preferred, but not required
Responsibilities:
Reports to: Administrative Teacher Coordinator; Curriculum Coordinator; CPSE Classroom Teacher
Teaching (Knowledge and Skills):
- Read the child’s chart and become familiar with goals and objectives of IEP. Engage with the students at their developmental level throughout the day (follow their lead).
- Participate in Quarterly Team meetings for your assigned child.
- Be aware of children’s needs that may bring unusual occurrences to teacher attention.
- Consistently utilize classroom/ behavior management strategies throughout the day (state expectations continuously, give positive alternatives, use "I" messages).
- Assist children with bathroom skills i.e. changing diapers, supervising toileting, washing hands, pulling clothing up and down. Use universal precautions during these tasks.
- Assist children with snack and lunch: Prepare food for safety not too hot, chewable pieces, utensils. Converse with students while they are eating. (children do not have to eat their lunch but they must sit and socialize until the 15 minute lunch period is over). Follow DOH standards for food prep and storage.
- Engage in discussions with Teaching Team when unsure and/or when you have ideas to assist your child.
Productivity:
- Complete the Attendance form for your child within an hour of the last bus.
- Accompany child to therapy sessions to learn strategies that will help the child in the classroom.
- Call in to front office if you are unable to get to work on time or if you will be absent.
- Keep the classroom organized throughout the day (help children pick up after selves)
Interpersonal Relations and Communication:
- Use a positive tone and affect.
- Accept and integrate into your work the suggestions and ideas of supervisors and co-workers.
- Exert a positive influence on your class and school wide moral.
- Demonstrate skills in reconciling different points of view.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to cultural differences
- Dress appropriately for the job.
Reliability and Dependability:
- Come to work on time and leave at assigned time and not before.
- Sign in when you enter the building and when you leave.
- Sign your time sheets weekly.
- Get prior approval and complete paperwork for non-illness absences, prior to taking time off.
- Other duties as assigned to assist in the mission of NYCCD
