Responsibilities:
AIR’s Technical Assistance Consultant will serve as a subject matter expert on training and technical assistance (TTA) focused on topics related to middle school mathematics instruction, coaching strategies to measure and reflect on instructional practice (such as improvement science methods and Plan, Do, Study, Act cycles), instructional support for middle school teachers to implement new strategies in the classroom, computational thinking practices, and student-focused instructional practice. The candidate will have experience providing training, facilitation, and coaching support to education personnel focused on topics related to middle school mathematics instruction and coaching educators to measure and reflect on instructional practice. This position will require the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse audiences working with local, state and national partners.

The responsibilities for the position include:
  • Develop training materials, toolkits, curricula, and assessment tools
  • Provide TTA for projects related to subject matter expertise
  • Act as a mathematics and improvement science expert supporting middle school teachers
  • Facilitate of coaching sessions with teacher teams virtually and in-person in Long Beach, CA and Milwaukee, WI
  • Track and report relevant data to assess project progress
  • Support teacher teams in developing and implementing measurement tools and interpreting associated data to support instructional practice
  • Work with internal teams to collaboratively support and report on coaching activities
  • Interact with state, local, and site-based staff; potential clients; and partner organizations
  • Manage or lead projects or tasks, with assumption of greater responsibility over time
  • Contribute substantively, thoughtfully, and creatively to the conceptualization and design of proposals in response to funder requests or for grant competitions
  • Develop and maintain daily relationships with clients and funders to plan, implement, and present study results while maintaining appropriate professional objectivity
  • Clearly communicate with clients and represent AIR in a professional manner
  • Handle multiple tasks independently and simultaneously
Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience or bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience in education, youth development, mathematics instruction or other related fields
  • Expertise in or experience developing evidence-based TTA tools and materials and providing TTA in middle or high school mathematics
  • Expertise in or experience developing evidence-based TTA tools and materials and providing TTA in at least one of the following additional areas preferred:
    • Computational thinking
    • Improvement science coaching
    • Instructional coaching for middle school teachers
    • Experience selecting and implementing evidence-based practices
  • Desire/capacity to implement and test whether new practices are associated with positive teacher and student outcomes
  • Expertise or experience in equity and improving outcomes for racially and linguistically diverse students
  • Prior experience in non-profit, philanthropic, university, or mission-driven environment

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication, with the ability to produce concise, high-level summaries and briefings
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing
  • The ability to travel up to 40% of the time
  • A strong business development acumen
  • Passionate about topics related to empowering teachers and improving outcomes for students is a must

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $85,000 - $115,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
