The position:
Under minimal supervision, maintain, repair and perform high level troubleshooting of testing instruments, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Test Equipment and industry specific testers and/or simulation equipment to support production requirements of the FAA/EASA/CASA or equivalent regulatory authority. Provide training and technical assistance to Technical Support Technician I's and customers. Provide technical support to Media and Technical Publication groups.

  • Test and Calibration
    • Coordinate and schedule repair, verification and maintenance of special electronic test equipment and industry specific tester devices in direct support of repair production and testing.
    • Coordinate and schedule Tester upgrades and maintenance with Repair Operations Supervisors without interruption to production, maintaining a 90% Tester Operational capability.
    • Coordinate and properly document all group work performed on Service Requests.
    • Design, fabricate, test and commission mockup, simulation equipment and prototype application specific custom racks designs, using Standard Engineering Development principles, wire diagrams and unit specific schematic. .
    • Perform the set-up, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies.
    • Perform hand set-ups for digital tests. Recognize failures and set-up problems, and determine the need for appropriate verification.
    • Record required information on all repairs and publication discrepancies.
    • Test and troubleshoot complex analog and digital electronics systems to the component level.
    • Apply 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Station regulations to maintain regulatory requirements within the Tester Services Group.
    • Forecast Panasonic IFE equipment and tester needs to support new product line development.
  • Vendor Support and Special Projects
    • Work within the team to approved schedules, complete assigned special projects meeting committed delivery dates.
    • Provide sound technical input on assigned special projects. .
  • Procedures, Documentation and Process Improvements
    • Write, maintain and publish group procedures, including test and mockup documentation to support development of mockups and tester commissioning.
    • Develop and implement 5S process improvements and continually evaluate opportunities to improve work processes and customer service.
  • Customer and Repair Shop Training
    • Perform Tester theory and troubleshooting training with Repair Shop and Customer Personnel.
    • Perform special verification rack theory of operation and training to customers,

What we're looking for:

  • Recognized technical qualification or relevant experience. (In U.S., Associates Degree in Electronics or Electronics Technology preferred or equivalent military education and experience.)
  • 5-7 years of IFE repair industry experience.
  • 2-4 years experience as a Technical Support Technician I or equivalent.
  • Certification with IPC 617/7711A or WHMA-A-620A is required.
  • Requires strong foundation in electronic principles and sound troubleshooting skills to resolve system integration problems.
  • Apply general knowledge of tester equipment operations to resolve tester problems using manuals; interconnect diagrams, and other technical information.
  • Must be able to operate repair shop bench equipment including Volt-ohm meters, oscilloscopes, audio and video signal generator and semi-automatic test equipment. Ability to operate programmable power supplies and special test fixtures. Experienced in the use of power tools.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, wire diagram and other technical publications in order to facilitate troubleshooting, repair and testing.
  • Must be familiar with electronic circuit design to facilitate fault isolation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work on complex, miniature electromechanical devices using common hand tools.
  • Experience in soldering techniques on surface mount technology where acrylic conformal coating is used.
  • Understanding of electronic circuit design to facilitate fault isolation and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of electronics and troubleshooting generally acquired through commercial aviation, military experience or technical school education combined with two years' cabin avionics industry experience.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior Tester Repair Technicians to maximize repair knowledge and competencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Tester Services Group, LF/OSA, Engineering groups and the Repair
  • Shop for resolving tester repair issues.
  • Excellent time management skills and a high personal sense of accountability (working to tight schedules and milestones).
  • Successfully handle complex system level troubleshooting events requiring in-depth understanding of electronic principles, test and integration methods.
  • Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
  • Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and be assertive.
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work within a multi-cultural environment and read and write English.
