Job Description: Veterinary Technical Assistant

The purpose of this position is to provide unparalleled patient care for the current, past, and future pets cared for by White’s Pet Hospital. Team members in this position will work closely with the veterinarians at White’s to provide the best possible medical care available. The ideal person in this positon will care for patients as if they were their own personal pets. The following list is a basic outline of the responsibilities for an individual in this position:

• Assisting veterinarians as necessary at all times
• Assisting technicians as necessary at all times
• Providing technical or “nursing” services to patients as directed by a veterinarian (as appropriate to their knowledge and technical skill)
• Maintaining a basic understanding of hospital procedures, policies, preventative medications, and vaccine schedules
• Maintaining a strong and applicable understanding of common diseases, medications, veterinary diets, and testing procedures.
• Working constantly to improve their technical skills and expand their veterinary knowledge base
• Intervening as necessary to prevent injury of pets, owners, and veterinarians.
• Counseling pet owners as appropriate bases on veterinary recommendations
• Assisting other hospital team members as appropriate and necessary
• Filling medications as prescribed by a veterinarian
• Maintaining a clean work environment including but not limited to:
• The laboratory
• All treatment areas
• Bathroom in “back of hospital”
• Surgery suite
• Hallways
• Adjusting doctors schedules as necessary
• Act as a supportive element for CSR staff
• Assisting kennel team in their care and dedication to boarding pets
• Maintaining communications as appropriate with pet owners
• Additional duties as assigned

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
