Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate Technician Foreperson to join our powertrain and electronics team and help build flight-critical components for our VTOL electric aircraft. The Joby Aviation team is made up of extremely talented, hardworking, proactive, and hands-on individuals, operating in a very fast-paced and rewarding environment. Responsibilities:
As a Production Foreperson, you will lead daily operations and build activities with our manufacturing team members within your assigned build area to ensure that planned tasks are meeting expectations while sustaining a high quality, safe work environment. The ideal candidate must have a broad background with the ability to work with all cross functional teams that include engineering, production control and quality members.

Joby’s Production Foreperson will be the first level of support to the line operations team and will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining a smooth production flow. The roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Review manual instructions and provide feedback to Manufacturing engineers
  • Train and decide placement of staff according to quality critical skill sets required at each line work center
  • Supports line supervisor with OJT (on the job training) and documentation
  • Ensures that all personnel thoroughly understand the quality and process requirements of their assigned position
  • Ensure that equipment calibration dates on work centers are within required specifications and contact appropriate personnel to recalibrate as required
  • Perform in-process quality inspections, testing and rework
  • Responsible for notifying QA and Supervisor when tests or inspections do not pass
  • Ensures that the room remains clean throughout the production run.
  • Responsible for reporting downtime to upper management and cross functional teams
  • Provides build status updates to the supervisor on a regular basis throughout the shift
  • Responsible for daily line passdowns
  • Reports safety violations and hazards using our incident reporting system in a timely manner
  • Motivated and has a strong desire and drive to learn new systems and processes
  • Works well under tight deadlines and maintains a positive attitude
  • Be hands on, build, troubleshoot and rework with engineering, production technician and production associates
  • Work closely with supervisor, production control and program managers to help drive day to day goals
  • Able to work in fast-paced and R&D environment
  • Can adapt constant changing work assignments
  • Communicates and assign work priorities to the team
  • Troubleshoot, perform rework and test
  • Verify and maintain shift readiness including safety, equipment, materials and tooling
  • Escalate unresolved issues to supervisor and/or line support team
  • Participates and leads daily team meetings (Start of shift and end of day)
  • Drives and maintains the 5S standards
  • Contributes with continuous improvement activities to eliminate waste
  • Train new employees and conduct cross-training of employees to ensure flexibility and effectiveness within the build team

  • Will act as the subject matter expert for assigned work area
Required:
  • 2+ years of experience leading teams of people in a production and R&D environment
  • Previous experience as a NPI, Engineering or Production/Manufacturing technician
  • Experience preferred in fast-paced production environment
  • Must be detail and quality oriented
  • Proficient with MS Office, including experience using Excel
  • Eager to learn, respectful and humble
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must work well under pressure
  • Must be dependable and show initiative to improve the overall production process
  • Must be able to interact effectively with a variety of individuals within and between departments
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and be a motivator of people
  • Work efficiently and productively in independent and team settings
  • Ability to lift 25-30lbs
  • Must be able to work hands on and build with the team
  • Able to remain focused, strategically prioritizes work assignments
  • Can multitask and make sudden adjustments to priorities if needed
  • Able to operate multiple equipment per SOP and basic hand tools. (electric and manual)
Desired:
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $41 - $50 hour. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
