Spectrolab, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, is seeking an Associate or Mid-level Test and Evaluation Systems Engineer to join our Test and Evaluation Engineering team located in Sylmar, CA. The selected candidate will be responsible for participating in the definition, development, qualification, implementation, and maintenance of next generation test & inspection software and protocols for solar cells, solar cell assemblies, solar panels and arrays consistent with customer/program requirements as well as LEAN/DFMAT and cost reduction objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
- Support inspection and test of bare cells, subassemblies, panels and arrays
- Prepare new test system & software design review documents and validation plans/reports, and make effective presentations to internal Technology Change Review Board and customers
- Generate test procedures, develop/maintain/update test software
- Work with Tooling Engineers to design appropriate test support fixtures
- Translate customer specifications and manufacturing drawings into documentation for efficient test execution to validate conformance to performance requirements
- Provide timely resolution of test execution issues; coordinate with Test Operations Leads as required to ensure technicians are properly trained on new test methodologies and equipment
- Conduct Test and Equipment Readiness Reviews for both internal and external customers, work with suppliers as needed to generate the necessary data to support reviews
- Participate in troubleshooting and interpreting of test results and in DFMAT reviews
- Participate in and/or lead root cause/corrective action implementation efforts to resolve test execution or equipment issues as needed
- Adopt an entrepreneurial mindset to Identify and execute continuous improvement and/or breakthrough new test procedures and systems to improve quality, reduce cost, or provide market advantage
- Provide technical support as needed to the marketing team, suppliers and customers
- Develop and maintain software to support required to command and control functionality for airborne searchlight & gimbal systems, automation of production processes, and data collection/management for product build/characterization/inspection/test for both Solar Products and Illumination Systems product lines
- Participate in factory automation, PCB/PCBA design, or MOVPE/wafer process improvement/issue resolution efforts
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
Work Authorization:
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- 1+ years of experience setting up equipment and performing tests on various products and assemblies using manual, semi-automatic, and/or automated test devices
- 1+ years of experience in test software design such as National Instruments LabView
- 1+ years of experience reading and understanding engineering drawings and schematics
- 1+ years of experience delivering priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience, and at least considered an intermediate user, with office tools such Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience as a quick learner; able to assess inputs from a variety of sources and provide clear and concise decisions and dispositions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Experience in working both independently and as part of a team
- Hands-on experience in assembling/testing electronic components and/or conducting environmental tests
- Hands-on experience in building/wiring/troubleshooting electro-mechanical assemblies and associated control software
- PCB design experience, inclusive of logic circuits and programming
- Familiarity with semiconductor processing, solar cell devices, material characterization and analytical techniques
- Familiarity with gated approach to product & process development and Aerospace industry material and qualification requirements (such as AIAA-S-111/112, NASA-STD-6016, and/or equivalent ECSS standards)
- Familiarity with developing and/or identifying and implementing targeted process automation or other continuous improvement initiatives for both production and production support environments
- Knowledge of statistical analysis, statistical process control, lean principles
Typical Education & Experience:
Associate (Level 2)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Mid-level (Level 3)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
Relocation:

Summary pay range for associate level: 80,750 – 109,250
Summary pay range for mid-level: 96,900 – 131,100
