Camp LifeguardThe Autism Project, a Lifespan PartnerThe Autism Project, is hiring Lifeguards for Camp WANNAGOAGAIN! Lifeguards uphold the rules and the guidelines of the pond to ensure the safest environment for all campers & staff. The Autism Projects Camp WANNAGOAGAIN provides a safe, supported, and fun camp experience for children, teens, and young adults with ASD & related social-emotional or communication challenges. Our camp program is designed to provide opportunities for real-life experiences, an environment to learn new leisure skills, and the chance to meet new friends in a structured environment with experienced staff.

Responsibilities: Work with other Lifeguard to ensure the safety of every individual at the camp both in and around the pond & other areasSupervise all waterfront activitiesVisibly manage up to 20 youth in the pond or in paddle boats Enforce regulations pertaining to showers, food and drink, conductMaintain the premises in a clean and sanitary conditionLearn and review all emergency proceduresReport 15 minutes prior to scheduled hours in proper uniform (whistle, staff shirts, and trunks (male presenting/identifying staff) or one-piece swimsuit (female presenting/identifying staff)Maintain a clean deck area and changing areaReport parents or childrens concerns to direct supervisor; complete necessary child abuse report forms as neededArrive prepared for the scheduled shift, prepared for constant concentration and visual surveillance of program participants with no distractions. Work in harmony and cooperation with staff, volunteers, members of the Autism Project, maintaining a positive disposition, demeanor and attireResponsible for attending and participating in 1:1 staff training, 2-hour staff orientation and camp set upRequirements: Must be 16 years old by the start of camp (July 24)Waterfront Certification, CPR Certification and Basic First Aid certification, requiredAbility to follow Camp Director and staffs lead in the use of visuals and other augmentative devices to communicate with campers. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for the duration of the shiftMust be able to bend and stoop occasionallyMust be able to lift at least 15 pounds occasionallyMust be able to spend long periods of time in a pool or at the lake frontRemain alert, with no lapses in consciousnessCommunicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel over the telephone and in personHear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including in water, understanding that significant background noise exists in aquatic environmentsOperate alone as a Lifeguard, without other Lifeguards for supportObserve all assigned sections of the water areaPerform all needed rescues and survival skillsDates: July 24-July 28 & July 31-August 4 (potential for an additional week, August 7-August 11)Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 8am4pm & Fridays, 8am-2pmLocation: Kingston, RI APPLY TODAY: Email your resume to afamiglietti@lifespan.org - You will be contacted with additional details.
