Description

The Bridge is looking for a Therapist responsible for providing therapeutic intervention for survivors of domestic/sexual violence. Develop multidisciplinary therapeutic plan to assist in crisis resolution by conducting initial assessment with clients impacted by domestic/sexual violence. Evaluate family goals toward self-sufficiency by conducting ongoing assessments and family/individual counseling. Assist clients dealing with domestic/sexual violence by providing preparation and coping methods through diagnostic and treatment procedures; providing information regarding the impact of domestic/sexual violence; minimizing psychological trauma.

Provide opportunities for client based experiential learning by conducting home visits to observe clients and provide constructive feedback on interpersonal skills. Provide legal advocacy by accompanying clients to court hearings, testifying as an expert witness, and debriefing clients after court appearances. Provide on-call assistance to local hospitals for victims of domestic/sexual violence on a rotating basis for approximately one to two 24-hours shifts per month.

Answer 24-hour crisis hotline to provide crisis intervention to callers, as well as information and referrals to callers in need of services outside scope of agency’s programs. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications on social work; establish personal networks; benchmark latest psychological practices; participate in professional societies.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Must be a licensed Therapist in the State of Texas.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule; primarily Monday through Friday with 2-3 later evenings per week; i.e. 10:00AM-7:00PM/11:00AM-8:00PM, with occasional weekend hours, as required by program needs.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with at-risk population.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic/sexual violence and the impact on victims.
  • Knowledge of community and legal resources to assist survivors of domestic/sexual violence and homelessness, as well as legislation applicable to the education of children.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle crisis situations and implement a plan of action with no supervision.
  • Must possess self-management skills by setting limits and boundaries as indicated by ability to set professional limit on role separate from clients.
  • Must possess interpersonal competencies by demonstrating the ability to understand the perspectives and feelings of others; and the ability to interpret non-verbal messages.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate support groups and adapt to change in a productive manner.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.

  • Must pass criminal background investigation check
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must provide and maintain current TX Driver’s License
  • Must provide and maintain clean driving record and annually update driving record
  • Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
  • Must be able to lift/carry (40) lbs, and ascend/descend stairs in emergency shelter setting.
