Job Summary: The Tool Room/Lab Assistant will contribute to the operations of the automotive training program by assuring that the tools are properly maintained and accounted for and by facilitating customer service via repair processes. The assistant will help instructors prepare the instructional area by setting up necessary equipment; assist the instructor in the classroom or lab environment; and monitor lab activities as may be necessary.
Minimum Required Education:
- A high school diploma plus post-secondary technical training
- Preferred: Associate’s degree in a technical field, preferably automotive. A certificate with demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in lieu of an associate’s degree
Minimum Required Experience:
- Three-plus years of work experience in a related field
- Preferred: Experience as an automotive service or automotive parts technician
Required Abilities:
- Ability to process and transfer detailed information including automotive specs.
- Ability to be detail-oriented.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task with minimal supervision. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and other standard computing equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to articulate and support the values and Code of Conduct of Hill College. Ability to interpret and abide by the policies and procedures of Hill College.
- Ability to think critically and apply appropriate problem-solving skills.

Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for the inventory and maintenance of the tools used for automotive training program.
- Responsible for the labeling, distribution, tracking, collection, and proper placement of tools used by students.
- Secure and manage quotes for equipment and tools.
- Maintain the inventory of consumables.
- Facilitate and track work orders for vehicle repairs.
- Price and locate parts.
- Serve as a customer liaison for vehicle repairs.
- Set up the instructional areas with the proper equipment.
- Assist instructors in the classroom/lab and monitor student lab activities
- Responsible for lab cleanliness and assisting with lab safety processes and procedures
- Assist with college recruiting events
- Maintain department vehicle
Other Information:
- Evening hours may be required depending upon instructional schedule.
- Security sensitive position.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium work; Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Active physical condition requiring walking, bending, reaching, climbing, stooping, pulling, pushing, standing, and other physical exertion.
