Boston Scientific Clonmel is hiring a Toolmaker/CNC Machinist to join its Engineering team.

The ideal candidate will be under limited supervisory direction, the CNC Machinist will assist manufacturing engineering, operations and new product development by transforming device design into molds, fixtures and functional prototypes and to support manufacturing by refining product design to achieve maximum quality.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate a variety of machine tools (including CNC workcenters, milling machines, EDM equipment, lathes and grinders) in order to machine various materials to fabricate patterns, machinery, tooling, molds and die components on a custom basis.
• Analyze specifications and determine equipment and tooling required. Apply knowledge of various material properties, machining and shop mathematics.
• Read blueprints, layout, sketch or non-dimensioned CAD models to visualize machining required and plan sequence of operations.
• Select method of holding work piece, position and secure materials for machining, select feed rate for each operation, and observe operation and regulate tool position and action.
• Verify conformance of machined work piece to specifications.
• Determine the most efficient method (cost and time) of completing the job without affecting quality.
• Build Quality into all aspects of their work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements.

Education and Experience

• Level 6 engineering/ trade qualification with 5+ years industry experience. Medical device experience an advantage.
• Candidate must have strong CNC programming skills and be confident working on complex one off prototypes and technically challenging applications.
• Proficient in the use of 3D CAD & CAM systems. Solidworks, AlphaCAM, SolidCAM.
• 3D Machining experience essential.
• Tool and fixture design experience a distinct advantage.
• Experience in a moldmaking/ mold maintenance environment desireable but not essential.
• Wire EDM experience desireable.
• Strong time management and planning skills.
• Candidate must have strong communication skills and will be required to interact with customers, suppliers and external vendors.
