• Transports multi-risk juveniles to various state facilities for confinement purposes and transports court ordered juveniles to various facilities contracted through the County for placement purposes. Applies mechanical restraints during transport to the state facilities and to and from some of the placement facilities
• Travels to other county detention centers to return clients to detention and travels to state mental health facilities for client’s admission for treatment purposes
• Escorts detained youth to offsite medical appointments, evaluations and interviews
• Transports juveniles home from detention when their family has no transportation
• Transports juveniles, parents and witnesses to and from court hearings. Assists with transportation needs for visitors, probation officers, administration and judges
• Responsible for scheduling the maintenance, record keeping and assigning of the department’s vehicle fleet
• Manages placement information to include: addresses, phone numbers, directions to placement facilities, county detention centers and TJJD facilities. Responsible for organizing the placement facility photo album and organizing the placement literature
• Delivers and picks up intra-office mail from the Administration Building. Delivers and picks up supplies from county agencies and from private vendors. Responsible for daily outgoing mail and packages
• Makes routine restitution deposits to the bank and makes cash deposits to the Auditor’s Office which requires the responsibility of handling money. Accepts responsibility for a County Purchasing Card including the required paperwork and making appropriate purchases in the event of emergencies
• Serves citations to juveniles in the detention center, at their homes, schools, county jail and other locations as needed
• Obtains required signatures from judges or vendors on time sensitive items such as contracts and grant applications
• Posts juvenile board meeting notices and distributes minutes
• Performs all other related duties as assigned

High School diploma or GED and two (2) full-time years of driver-related job experience.

Must be able to work well with and supervise young people.

Must be able to communicate with all types and ages of people.

Must have a good driving record, a valid Texas Driver's License and automobile liability insurance.

Must have the ability to obtain certification as a Juvenile Detention Officer in order to apply mechanical restraints and transport clients without a certified probation officer.

Must have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR, and Handle with Care.

Must be able to diffuse tense situations that often occur during a transport.

Ability to remain calm and react appropriately while driving.

Ability to utilize maps, including GPS, and follow directions to various locations.

Must be able to work independently without close supervision.

Must be able to work Monday - Friday 7:30AM - 4:30PM, with possible weekends.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to drive, walk, lift and carry. Incumbent must be able to drive and walk in all types of weather and on all surfaces. Must allow for a very flexible schedule due to last minute changes or unexpected trips.
