Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
- Responsible for performing various activities to meet transportation needs in a safe and efficient manner.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- ESSENTIAL
- Follows established department procedure to accurately verify and transport the proper patient by visually checking patient identification or verifying with nursing staff. Always uses a minimum of two patient identifiers.
- Transports patients, charts, specimens and required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic areas throughout the hospital in a safe and efficient manner 100% of the time. Provides emergency assistance to patients who become ill during transport process until proper staff can be notified and assistance arrives.
- Reports to nursing units and notifies nursing staff of patient being transported and destination. Verifies mode of transportation and pre-op status. Obtains patient chart and necessary paperwork and/or equipment.
- Initiates or assists in transfer process of patients from bed to mode of transportation. Requests and obtains instruction/assistance from nursing staff for patients that require isolation techniques, two-man lifts, bedpan/restroom assitance or that have support devices requiring special handling.
- Returns patient to bed utilizing proper transfer techniques 100% of the time to avoid injury to patient and/or self. Verifies that patient's basic needs are satisfied upon return to bed. Places call light beside table within patient's reach. Offers to put away personal items and reports patient's needs to nursing staff. Reports patient has been returned to nursing unit.
- Notifies dispatcher of completion of assigned duties and proceeds as instructed. If a delay or problem occurs in transporting a patient, transporter informs dispatcher immediately and proceeds according to instruction issued.
- When slow, returns to department or assigned area for instructions, which may include cleaning public areas as needed, disinfecting equipment or moving beds and stretchers until dispatched to next assignment. Inspects designated oxygen cylinder and replaces, if empty.
- Transports patients upon admission and discharge, helping the patient in and out of vehicles at entrances and instructing patients/parents on proper use of childcare safety restraints, ie. seat belts and car seats.
- Provides direction and other helpful information to persons entering the facility and others while performing transportation duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet the organization`s needs.

- Preferred: 6 months experience in customer service related field

- Required: American Heart Association BLS CPR
