Position Summary:

Coordinates the planning and implementation of Turf grass maintenance programs for the Parks and Recreation department, including but not limited to athletic field turf programs and common areas in City parks. Provides technical knowledge and expertise to Park and Recreation department in operations relating to care of and maintenance of turf grasses. Reports to Parks Manager.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for scheduling of all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly maintenance activities related to turf grass in Parks.

2. Operates equipment used for maintaining turf grasses including but not limited to; mowers, sprayers, tractors, top dressers, aerators, spreaders, and back pack sprayers. Trains new employees on safe operation of above listed equipment.

3. Coordinates athletic field maintenance activities with recreation division.

4. Diagnoses and recommends corrective action for insects, diseases and pests related to turf grasses

5. Coordinates and executes turf grass horticultural activities for the Parks and Recreation Department including but not limited to; fertilizer applications, pesticides applications, herbicide applications and fungicide applications.

6. Coordinates and executes turf grass agricultural activities for the Parks and Recreation Department turf grasses including but not limited to; mowing, aeration, dethatching, verticutting and top dressing.

7. Coordinates and executes annual overseeding and grow in’s of turf grasses.

8. Coordinates irrigation requirements for assigned areas with Irrigation Maintenance Worker(s).

9. Coordinates and executes repairs and rehab to turf grasses during off season.

10. Assists with Parks and Recreation manager with preparing turf grass operating budget. Obtains quotes for materials and products relating to turf grass maintenance.

11. Coordinates soil analysis of assigned areas and implements fertility programs based on findings.

12. Coordinates and executes maintenance activities for turf care at Dog Park.

13. Attends training classes, webinars/seminars, related to turf grass maintenance.

14. As Directed by the Parks Manager or Director, provides direct support during times of disasters, Hurricanes and City Clean-up after an event.

15. Regualr in-person attendance during City and department business hours, since face -to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees, outside colleagues, residents, or vendors, and all immediate access to documents or other information located in the workplace is required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Green Industries Best Management Practices (within 3 months of hire)
• Obtain Florida Department of Agricultural & Consumer services General Standards (CORE) Exam (within 6 months of hire)
• Obtain Florida Department of Agricultural & Consumer services Ornamental & Turf Pesticide License (within 6 months of hire)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to establish working relationships with other employees, residents and vendors
• Knowledge of the professional principles, methods and procedures of maintaining turf grasses.
• Ability to perform
• Ability to analyze a variety of turf grass problems and make sound recommendation for solutions.
• Ability to prepare reports, maintain records, express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and writing.
• Ability to work non-scheduled hours when called in for emergencies.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, lift (heavy: 50 lbs+), carry, grab, and hold with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to safely operate equipment relating to essential job functions.Ability to see, hear, and speak (with or without assistance.)

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:

• Must have a valid Florida driver's license.

Working Hours and Environment:

• Works primarily outside in the City Park system.
• Work is performed on nights, weekends and Holidays on occasions when required.

Experience:

• Turf Maintenance: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Required)
• Green Industries BMP s w/in 3 months of hire (Preferred)
• Ornamental & Turf Pesticide License w/in 6 months of hire (Preferred)
