The Unit Host is directly responsible for the patient dining experience by taking a patient’s order at their bedside, guiding the patient in selecting their meal from a restaurant-style Cuisine on Call menu, and personalizing the delivery of meals to guests throughout the hospital. The primary focus is to form relationships with patients and care providers in order to maintain high levels of guest satisfaction. Professional image both in appearance and attitude in every guest interaction is the standard. The Unit Host has solid knowledge of all diets and exhibits a strong sense of urgency to ensure the timely, expedient and accurate delivery of meals to our guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enters and updates patient diet information electronically with adherence to dietary guidelines.


Answers incoming calls and addresses requests accordingly.


Serves as the primary contact for patients and patient units for dietary needs.


Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient service.


Delivers trays to patients in a timely, customer oriented manner.


Rounds on patients after every meal to ensure orders are complete and food is satisfactory.


Delivers floorstock, rotates products, ensures accuracy of labeling and dating, and cleans refrigerators on unit based kitchens.


Documents patient food and beverage intake when required.


Ensures all patients have the opportunity to order meals and assist in meal selection.


Communicates clearly and appropriately to healthcare staff, patients, and families. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.


Assists with trayline duties as the need arises.


Works cohesively with the team, providing assistance to co-workers as time allows.


Demonstrates the ability to work with a variety of personalities in a professional and positive manner.


Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations and conflict.


Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.


Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.


Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.


Maintains established hospital departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement activities, safety, environmental and infection control standards.


Additional duties as assigned or requested by supervisory personnel.


Promptly reports incidents, unsafe conditions and completes paperwork.


Provides training to new employees and uses the buddy check system should an error be identified.


Professional Requirements:

Wears identification while on duty.


Maintains confidentiality at all times.


Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.


Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.


Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.


Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.


Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards

Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.


Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Demonstrates exemplary customer service skills.

Course work or knowledge in nutrition and special diets preferred
