POSITION SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Upholsterer is responsible for the mending and replacement of material on all ship’s furniture.

• Possesses a good working knowledge and the proper care and use of sewing and upholstery equipment.
• Repairs, mends all furniture onboard by repairing upholstery, cushions, piping, scratches, etc.
• Issues uniforms to newly sign-on crew.
• Repair, install, hem curtains in guest staterooms, public areas, crew quarters and crew spaces.
• Assist with towel folding, packing linen for Stateroom Steward Sections
• Decorate Staterooms for Special Occasions Packages on Embarkation Day
• Reports any loss or damage of uniforms, fixtures, and equipment as well as maintenance deficiencies.
• Maintains all equipment in good working order.
• Keeps the Upholstery shop and storerooms organized, clean and tidy at all times.
• Maintains an inventory of the materials and fabrics in stock.
• Ensures sufficient stock of required materials/fabrics and supplies such as thread, needles, equipment are in stock onboard.
• Assist the Tailor when necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
• Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy, Waypoint, SEMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

• Intermediate to Advanced verbal and written level of English is required.
• Minimum six months work experience as a professional tailor and/or upholsterer is required.
• Minimum of one year prior training or apprenticeship schooling as a Tailor or Upholsterer is required.

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

REQUIRED ABILITIES / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• While performing the essential functions of this job, all team members are required to stand; walk long distances on the ship; use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste and smell. All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down stairs and lifting more than 25 pounds. This job requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
• Work within different temperature changes—indoors to outdoors.
• Able to pass basic safety course.
