User Experience Researcher I

How would you like to be part of an innovative Scrum team developing financial investment applications – while still having a life? Would you enjoy solving complex problems in a fast-paced, continuous delivery environment – with a 4-day, 36-hour work week? At Rule One you’ll be an important part of a small group of industry disruptors who are out to change the investing world. We are seeking a User Experience Researcher with a passion for using in-the-field research to connect the dots between real world users and our application development teams.

How do you feel about Red, Green, Clean? We do all work in pairs, using a test-driven design and development approach. Our collaborative team environment features the delivery of working software weekly, using an incremental, iterative approach. We strive to share our knowledge with each other, becoming a better team each Sprint. You’ll use your extensive social media savvy and functional testing skills as you pair with members of our Scrum team.

  • Our co-located team works and plays hard on a beautiful horse farm southwest of Atlanta. Our office is in a converted farmhouse with the analysts for two investment funds. We don’t work overtime or weekends, and we get a month of paid vacation.
  • Collaborate directly with the Rule One CEO, Phil Town, as he conveys his vision of creating robust investment tools that bring powerful information globally to millions of people seeking to achieve financial independence. As a benefit, we also offer you access to Rule One Investing educational classes.
  • Unleash the power of Agile software development as you learn from our Scrum Master, Bill Johnson, who incorporates XP, Kanban and Lean practices with Scrum and lists his personal mentors as Jeff Sutherland, the creator of Scrum, and Rich Sheridan, author of “Joy, Inc.”
  • Be instrumental in creating a transformative set of investing tools for the individual, amateur investor, using your skills in UX design, business analysis, field research, and consulting.
  • Be an active advocate of our mobile platforms both internally and externally through user communities.

Qualities

  • Ability to learn quickly with the willingness to try new things and “fail faster”.
  • An integral Agile team member, willing to learn or teach while “playing well with others.”
  • A great communicator with a sense of humor who is willing to question and be questioned.
  • An open attitude to working in pairs in a co-located environment.
  • A right-brained, out-of-the-box person long on user empathy.

Skills

  • Conducting observations and interviews with end users in their native environment.
  • Facilitating prioritization sessions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Designing contrasting solutions to problems identified in the discovery phase.
  • Creating user surveys and conducting design assessments with end users.
  • Supporting developers during the implementation phase.
  • Facilitating discovery and design processes for organizational and cultural change.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a liberal arts related discipline such as Psychology, Sociology, or Anthropology.

3-4 years of work experience in user experience research and design, consulting, business analysis or customer service.

Prefer 1 year of experience with teams building mobile applications.

Demonstrated ability to lead team sessions that translate user issues into workable solutions.
