The Position

This position is responsible for handling all Veterans’ Benefits approvals and compliance survey related inquiries and correspondence at Ocean County College. In addition, the position will coordinate the administration of Veterans’ Education Benefits programs as well as perform general duties within the Office of Financial Aid. This position oversees the administration, processing, record keeping and reconciliation of Veterans’ Education Benefits programs. This position adheres to federal and state requirements related to the administration of federal and state financial aid and Veterans’ Education Benefits programs. Works in partnership with the staff of the Veterans and Military Resource Center (VMRC) and Academic Advising staff to deliver exceptional service to Veteran and Military Affiliated students.

What You Will Do


1. Assists students with inquiries and problems concerning their Veterans’ Education Benefits. Advise financial aid and veteran students on the application process, including deadlines, maintaining satisfactory academic progress and other eligibility requirements, understanding VA, federal, state rules and regulations.

2. Provides oversight of Veterans’ Education Benefits, including administration, processing, certifcation, and reconciliation. Certifies and processes all government documents in regard to the VA Educational Benefits programs.

3. Establishes and maintains accurate and up-to-date information in VA student files.

4. Prepares and submits paperwork and reports to the Veterans Administration and State Veterans' agencies. Authorizes veteran educational benefits for advance payment.

5. Prepares and submits waivers for qualifying Veterans/military personnel or their dependents to accounting department on a timely basis.

6. Monitors tuition charges and certifcations using the Enrollment Manager system; reconciles charges according to federal, state and college policy.

7. Responsible to complete all tasks related to the processing of federal and state financial aid programs, including but not limited to: federal verification and student loan process; awarding aid and adjusting federal and state aid awards.

8. Participates in speaking engagements including financial aid workshops, Veterans related events, Open House, information sessions, and other events on and off-campus.

9. Keeps current with Federal Rules and Regulations as they pertain to Veterans’ Education Benefits and ensures compliance by OCC.

10. Related projects and duties and as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Must Have


1. Bachelor’s Degree

2. Three years of higher education experience in a busy post-secondary academic environment with high volume of customer service tasks and inquiries requiring a similar level of problem-solving and/or prioritizing skills and knowledge of federal and state regulations.

3. Ability to excel in team and individual settings; provide support for federal and state financial aid processing and Veterans Educational benefits programs.

4. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and database experience; ability to create standard reports.

2. Experience Working with Ellucian Colleague System.
