The Cat Clinic of Lawrence is looking to add Veterinary Assistants to our cat care medical team! Do you have a passion for cats and their people and want to help provide the expert care our feline overlords deserve?
Schedule: Open to full-time or part-time candidates
- Full-time position schedule: 32-40 hours / week and schedule may include shifts Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri 7:30am-6pm and some rotating Sat 7:30am-12:30pm
- Part-time position schedule: 20-29 hours / week and schedule may include shifts Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri 12pm-6pm and some rotating Sat 7:30am-12:30pm
- There is the possibility for the occasional late evening if emergency presents
Qualifications
- Experience working in feline care within a veterinary hospital or shelter/humane society preferred. Open to consider candidates that have direct feline care experience working professionally within a grooming salon, pet store, pet daycare, or pet sitting company. Also open to those currently in DVM, pre-vet, vet tech, or vet assistant higher education program.
- Must love cats and be open to learn low-stress handling techniques!
- Must be comfortable being in a veterinary medical setting that involves bodily fluids and smells, discussing end of life situations, and discussing finances.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Those in this position will have to be very detail oriented and accurate when it comes to writing in medical records and correctly noting medical terminology, symptoms, and medications.
- Ability to handle stressful or emergency situations and problem solve in these situations.
- Must be at least 18 years old and high school diploma/equivalent.
The title of “Veterinary Technician” is reserved for those that have completed an approved technician program and passed state certification exam. If you haven't done this or are in the process, we would still love to consider you for a vet assistant position at our hospital.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Running exam room appointments, obtaining patient medical history, charting notes in electronic medical record system, filling medications, client education and reviewing patient discharge information, cleaning and sanitizing of hospital, laundry, patient care duties (food/water, condo cleaning, attention, giving medication), low stress patient handling and assisting DVM/Vet Tech with any patient needs
- Advanced duties may be performed by those with considerable vet assistant experience after initial onboarding period or those trained on the job with the Cat Clinic with time.
