Position Overview:

Ethnologue (www.ethnologue.com) is often referred to as the most authoritative and comprehensive source of language information available today and we're looking for a Web Engineer! The Ethnologue Web Engineer is responsible for supporting and maintaining the Ethnologue website, planning and developing software solutions and web applications, and coordinating regularly with the Program Director, Editorial staff, Product Manager, and Business Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Overall function, integration, and maintenance of the Ethologue Website.
• Understanding UI, cross-browser compatibility, responsive design, accessibility standards, and general web functions and standards
• Ensuring all @ethnologue.com is managed and directed to the appropriate responsible staff. This includes SIL.org mailboxes such as Ethnologue_Webmaster@sil.org
• Up-dating all Ethnologue.com content for each new edition and archiving the superseded editions of the Ethnologue and that documentation for all the annual release tasks is kept up to date
• Ensuring all elements of security are implemented, up-dated and enforced, including blocking of web scrapers and abusive users, and spam content/users.
• Administering all elements of maintenance such as executing realtime website fixes, logging bug reports, and ensuring user feedback is addressed in a responsive manner
• Coordinating a plan for all up-grades, enhancements and fixes in conjunction with the Program Director and Product Manager
• Successfully publishing all Ethnoblog posts
• Developing and managing email newsletters to customers, contributors and other audiences.
• Ensuring that a sustainable ecommerce platform is maintained and a high level of user experience is attained in coordination with the Ethnologue business operation team
• Executing other website related activities as needs arise

Education/Training Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related discipline); or certification in Web Development; or equivalent experience

Experience and Skill sets:

• Minimum of 5 years experience as a web developer
• Experience with Hugo static website generator, Cloudflare, and/or Google Analytics is a plus
• Ability to manipulate, sort, curate and maintain large databases
• Ability to write and edit technical documentation
• Knowledge of modern HTML/CSS and other coding languages
• Adept in technology, allowing effective use of mainstream workplace methods and tools (Google Suite, Microsoft Office)
• Efficiency with DBNetSuite
• Proficiency with content management systems
• Top-notch oral and verbal communications skills
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask
• Detail-oriented approach with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, including the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
• Knowledge of analytics tools
• Able to make independent decisions on a daily basis, addressing the best way to handle specific tasks
• Ability to serve and work with distributed and diverse teams of creative professionals
• Familiarity with Languages and/or Linguistics is a plus
• Non-profit and international experience is a plus

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $26,000.00 - $39,000.00 per year
