OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Assists WLRN’s Management Entity’s Director of Engineering with the installation, maintenance and operation of digital television, radio, broadcasting, production, transmission and engineering equipment, computer systems and facilities that support the radio and television services provided by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) through WLRN-TV & WLRN-FM. The incumbent collaborates with stakeholders in accomplishing tasks and projects.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Assists in the development and implementation of radio and television technical engineering standards, including day-to-day activities, to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of WLRN-TV & WLRN-FM.
2. Assists in the research, design, installation, and repair of all television, radio, over digital, OTT, internet systems, high power RF systems, production environments and all associated equipment using current platforms and protocols.
3. Assists in the management of building facilities and grounds, including HVAC, power generation, and security systems.
4. Assists with ensuring compliance of radio and television equipment and operations with all local, state and Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) rules and regulations and any other appropriate bodies.
5. Assists in the administration of all engineering systems and projects with management, budgetary and personnel responsibilities as delegated by the Director of Engineering; assists as necessary with the development of engineering services; budgets; administers labor contract provisions for identified technical staff.
6. Assists the Director of Engineering with supervision and coordination of professional and technical engineering staff, operators, and IT technicians regarding all facets and applications of engineering technology as they relate to the technical operation of WLRN-TV & WLRN-FM.
7. Assists in the drafting of engineering-related documents describing engineering issues, technology planning, budgeting and problem identification and resolution.
8. Responsible for preparing and executing maintenance schedules for studio, computer and transmission equipment.
9. Helps design, establish, and support technical systems, content workflow and support systems including integration and problem-solving software, hardware, networking, and infrastructure.
10. Updates technical plan documentation when installations are completed to meet current industry standards and comply with M-DCPS policies and expectations.
11. Plans, in consultation with the Director of Engineering and WLRN Management Liaison, an equipment forecast schedule that monitors equipment trends, equipment replacement cycles, and synchronization/compatibility of broadcasting equipment in connection with all M-DCPS’ broadcasting assets.
12. Performs other duties related to the general administrative responsibilities of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors and outdoors and requires frequent in-county travel. Possession of valid driver’s license. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, or related field preferred. Network or SBE certification preferred.
2. Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a public or commercial broadcasting station, preferably in a digital environment.
3. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in radio/television equipment installation, engineering maintenance and operations.
4. Working knowledge of electronics, mechanics, broadcast operations, radio and television transmitters/translators, and FCC technical compliance.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
