Job description
Veteran Engineering and Technology, LLC (VET) requires three (3) Technical Writer/Editor to support the Office of Security (OSY) within multiple branches of the Department of Commerce. The OSY serves to mitigate risk to personnel, facilities, property, information, and assets through increased initiatives in various security fields via issuance of Department-wide security policies and the application of a multi-disciplined security programs extending from the Headquarters to our operating units. OSY plans and implements these policies through developing procedures and delivering security services for the Office of the Secretary and other nationwide Departmental bureaus. Specifically, OSY establishes and enforces policies and procedures for conducting background investigations and granting security clearances; safeguarding classified and sensitive documents and information; protecting Department personnel, facilities and property; assessing threats and determining risks to Departmental assets; ensuring proper communications security; providing guidance to Departmental offices and operating units on security-related matters; and, ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures.
The following tasks are anticipated:
Provide the OSY with technical review and writing of official communications and program policies, and provide essential support services so the OSY can operate more efficiently and assist operating units with support as it relates to developing division specific standard operating procedures and other official documents.
1. Provide technical editing on security policies, procedures and SOPs.
2. Coordinate the drafting of Memoranda of Understanding, Departmental Memos and other high-level communication, coordinate the review by key stakeholders and dissemination.
3. Coordinate with divisions to update security policy on a regular basis or as needed, specifically, but not limited to the Manual of Security Policies and Procedures.
4. Track updates to security policies and ensure revisions are made in a timely manner.
5. Assist with the analysis of potential policies and make recommendations regarding cataloging current/historical guidance and make recommendations to leadership and program managers.
6. Review, write and provide editing of material to be posted and available on OSY website and learning center.
7. Oversee creation of Standard Operating Procedures.
8. Demonstrate strong customer service skills both in person and by telephone, and work effectively as a team member balancing the interests of a variety of clients.
9. Advise program managers and senior managers on administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
10. Analyze and evaluate, on a quantitative/qualitative basis, the effectiveness of line program operations in meeting established goals and objectives.
11. Develop, provide, and transmit effective communications, both oral and in writing.
12. Prepare a variety of reports for OSY bureau and OSY management.
13. Research, assist in developing, and review documents for Department–level approval, to include management policies, and other routine requests.
14. Create, review, and provide briefing materials.
15. Execute word processing and data entry.
16. Review and edit office documents.
17. Demonstrate Expertise and Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to include heavy use of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
18. Establish and maintain records and files which include performing appropriate reductions in accordance with general records schedules.
19. Photocopy and perform other general office duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
· BS/BA degree in a related field (or equivalent) plus approximately 4 years of related experience.
· Proficient in the use of MS Office Tools such as Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint, and managing these files within SharePoint.
· Strong verbal, written and communication skills
· Ability to gather customer feedback on documentation to improve usability.
· Excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment.
· Ability to adapt rapidly to a changing industry and be able to adjust responsibilities, time, and objectives accordingly.
· Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills so they can communicate with others about the work they are performing.
