Job Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION: The Elementary Art/STEM Enrichment Specialist will prepare lessons and instruct students in art and STEM enrichment activities at assigned elementary schools.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Elementary Principal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching certificate with a K-8 elementary education and/or visual arts endorsement
  • Demonstrated training in and/or knowledge of Washington State Educational Technology, Math, and Science Standards
  • Demonstrated training in and/or knowledge of Washington State Visual Arts Learning Standards
  • Experience and/or training using technology to enhance curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Successful experience working with the elementary-age child
  • Knowledgeable of contemporary pedagogical practices such as developmentally appropriate practices, cooperative learning, learning styles, contextual teaching, integrated curriculum, inclusion practices, enrichment opportunities, classroom assessment, alternative assessment, individualized programs, differentiation of instruction, global/ multi-cultural education, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching at the elementary level (grades K-5)
  • Experience working as an art, technology, science and/or math specialist
  • Experience with classroom assessments and alternative classroom assessments
  • Experience working with classroom volunteers
  • Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Experience with successful classroom management
ESSENTIAL JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES:
  • Identify the learning needs of individual students
  • Establish learning objectives consistent with pupil’s learning needs, the district’s learning objectives and goals, and visual art and STEM activities
  • Plan and develop a variety of instructional experiences appropriate to the specified learning objectives and outcomes
  • Conduct an effective instructional plan for a classroom and assess pupils’ achievement
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Select and/or create appropriate instructional materials and maintain materials in an organized manner
  • Order and organize materials and supplies
  • Organize the physical setting and climate to optimize a productive learning environment
  • Organize individual and group learning experiences appropriate to the students, subject matter and outcomes desired
  • Develop and maintain clear standards and engagement strategies for student conduct with appropriate disciplinary action as needed
  • Work cooperatively, maintain effective communication and act professionally with staff, families and community members
  • Support and train students on various district software and systems used in classroom instruction
  • Instruct students on proper operation, care, and maintenance of computer systems, equipment and art supplies
  • Command a fundamental understanding of networks, the internet, and local vs. cloud storage solutions
  • Model effective use of the internet for students including appropriate internet safety, “digital citizenship” and research skills
  • Effectively use Microsoft Windows, android and other operating systems
  • Organize art shows and prepare displays
  • Supervise the art docent program and coordinate use of parent volunteers in the classroom learning experience
  • Assume responsibility for school activities
  • Follow the professional code of ethics for educators and remain current through continuing professional development
  • Maintain an understanding of Affirmative Action, Title IX, and handicapped regulations
  • Ability to consistently:

TERMS OF CONTRACT:
  • Salary: $50,463 - $95,113 per year, placement based on experience and level of education
  • Length of Contract: 1.0 FTE, 180 days plus professional development days, 2023-2024 school year only
  • Leaves/Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Education Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (PEA Bargaining Agreement).
