Position Summary
An innovative, grant-funded research project, Palliative and Collaborative Care (PACT) Intervention, is seeking a Research Assistant to work closely with the PACT team to coordinate schedules of PACT participants. The project will last about 18 months. The PACT Research Assistant has experience in cancer and possesses distinct knowledge of and skills in care of older adults with cancer. The PACT Research Assistant will be responsible for working closely with the PACT RN when patients are recruited and enrolled. The PACT Research Assistant will coordinate activities and care planning with the RN, PT and OT members of team and participants, co-lead PACT meetings with the PI and provide continuity of care and standards during the course of the study. This is a temporary research assistant position working 10 hours per week on this study.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of professional patient care practices and procedures, medical terminology, disease processes and body systems, pharmacology, and current clinical diagnostic procedures and treatments. One year of relevant oncology experience as a Nursing Assistant, Research Assistant or Research Coordinator, specifically experience working with adults with cancer is preferred.
Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help patients, their families, and healthcare personnel strengthen their understanding of and/or capacity to deal with health issues.
Ability to assess and diagnose patient symptoms, interpret medical and clinical information, and order diagnostic tests and procedures when indicated. Ability to prescribe and/or modify treatment plans and/or medications to meet the needs of individual patients. Ability to make accurate decisions based upon the review of patient symptoms and medical records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective communications with patients, their families, healthcare personnel, and others. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely either verbally or in writing regarding the disease process and level of care and services being rendered to ensure that the intended audience understands the information and the message. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others.
