Position Summary:

KPC’s Admissions Counselor represents Kenai Peninsula College both on- and off-campus in a variety of outreach and community engagement activities. This position initiates and nurtures relationships with prospective students, counselors, teachers, administrators, as well as tribal and other community organizations that serve and employ prospective students. This position is a member of the Student Services department and works closely with internal offices including Academic Advising, Admissions & Registration, Disability Support Services, Financial Aid, Learning Center, Residence Life, Testing Center, Veterans Services and other support services and faculty to assist prospective KPC students with their transition into KPC programs and courses.

Duties:

10Other Work closely with the KPC Advancement Office to make sure that design and messaging of recruitment materials (promotional items, mailings, information on the KPC website, and social media accounts) are consistent with KPC’s overall marketing plan. Assist with the development and delivery of New Student Orientation through collaboration with Student Services staff and other internal KPC offices and individuals. Actively participate in assigned committees and/or councils. Maintain proficiency in all assigned university data management and student support systems such as Salesforce, Banner, and UAOnline.Essential

10Recruitment Planning Responsible for student recruitment event concept, compliance, and assessment. Serve on KPC’s Recruitment & Marketing Workgroup and design and develop programs to support the college’s Strategic Enrollment Management plan. Participate in setting goals and objectives and collaborate with departments across campus and with state and community partners to ensure the effective delivery of student recruitment programs.Essential

40Admissions Counseling Provide initial Admissions Counseling by assisting prospective KPC students with their transition into KPC programs and courses. Develop and maintain strong and proactive relationships with prospective students in order to guide and serve as the primary point of contact from initial inquiry to matriculation at KPC. Problem-solve and advocate on behalf of the student to resolve issues, address concerns, ensure equity and reduce barriers that prospective students may face during the admissions process. Serve as a liaison between prospective students and internal offices including Academic Advising, Admissions & Registration, Disability Support Services, Financial Aid, Learning Center, Residence Life, Testing Center, Veterans Services and other support services and faculty. Educate and guide students in initiating academic and logistical actions based on university deadlines, policies and procedures (e.g. course registration, add/drop actions, completion of admission and financial aid materials, addressing account holds, purchasing books, etc.). Coordinate with internal offices to create and maintain procedures to improve communication, tracking and servicing of prospective students through use of UA software programs such as Salesforce. Comply with all federal FERPA regulations and confidentiality procedures and institutional policies. Protect the security of student information and records as required, including paper and electronic media. Follow established University protocols and use assigned tools and systems to serve students. Maintain comprehensive expertise in university policies, procedures, calendars, deadlines, requirements, services, organizations and personnel in order to serve as a reliable information resource to the campus community.Essential

40Outreach & Community Engagement Represent Kenai Peninsula College both on- and off-campus in a variety of outreach and community engagement activities. Initiate, build and nurture relationships with prospective students, family members, guardians, secondary school counselors, teachers, administrators, counselors, tribal organizations, community members and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Lead and coordinate the efforts to promote KPC through a wide variety of activities including college and career fairs to showcase the college. Plan, coordinate, and present at special events and collaborate with KPC staff and faculty to present at a variety of recruitment events and programs. Guide prospective applicants through the admissions process and opportunities at Kenai Peninsula College. Develop and deliver formal presentations to high school students, college students, community groups and organizations. Develop and present programs to acquaint other student services professionals with KPC’s programs and services. Travel extensively and willingly, in and out of state, sometimes to remote locations under difficult conditions (requires driving). May require some evening and weekend hours.Essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated presentation skills.

Advanced user of Microsoft Office products, Google Workspace and other programs necessary to perform duties.

Ability to be a project leader.

Ability to travel extensively and willingly, in and out of state, often to remote Alaska locations.

Ability to work with diverse student populations including low-income, first generation, geographic regions, ethnic groups, high school, transfer, and non-traditional students.

Preferred:

Intimate knowledge of the University system, specifically Kenai Peninsula College, its academic programs, and support services.

Ability to interpret and/or explain policy and procedure under a variety of circumstances.

Knowledge of and ability to comprehensively advise students about degree programs offered and admissions requirements.

Knowledge of decision-making strategies and problem-solving skills.

Typical Experience:

Associate degree and three years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in admissions and/or recruitment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in planning, designing and/or presenting workshops and/or training sessions.

Required Education or Training:

Associate degree and three years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Unrestricted Alaska driver's license or be able to obtain an unrestricted Alaska driver's license within 60 days of accepting the job.

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position beginning in May 2023, complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.

SUMMARY: Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) is a campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The college has three locations and is comprised of:

KRC Info: This position will be located at the Kenai River Campus situated on 309 acres along the banks of the beautiful Kenai River, the ancestral homelands of the Dena'ina Athabascan, Ahtna Athabascan, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq and Eyak peoples. The area is known for its wildlife splendor, mountain viewscapes, world- class fishing and hunting, hiking, canoe trails and winter outdoor adventure. And yet, Anchorage, Alaska's largest city is just a 2.5-hour drive or 20-minute flight away.

KPC offers two-year Associates of Arts and Associates of Applied Science degrees, as well as courses leading to occupational certifications and UAA baccalaureate degrees, such as Psychology, Art and Anthropology. The college has 24 full-time faculty, 55+ staff, 15+ student employees, and 65+ part-time faculty each semester. KPC enrolls more than 1,800 students/semester.
