Job Summary:


Candidate would be part of dynamic team of individuals that support the operational activities of a farm, field operation, or agricultural facility, maintains plant production, and maintenance to ensure operational efficiencies.

Work is performed at the Lelah Starks Elite Foundation Seed Potato Farm in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. This position assists with activities such as potato seed grading, potato seed cutting, planting and harvesting (greenhouse and field) performed in the months of March, April, May, September, October, and November.

Responsibilities:

Supports the operational activities of a farm, field operation, or agricultural facility, maintains plant production, and maintenance to ensure operational efficiencies.
  • 40% Plants, cultivates, and harvests vegetables, fruits, nuts, horticultural specialties, and field crops
  • 50% Cleans, grades, sorts, packs, and loads harvested products and seed
  • 10% Performs sanitation in compliance with standard operating procedures for limiting plant disease

Qualifications:


No experience required as training is provided. Candidate should be comfortable bending, twisting, standing, sitting, and lifting. Tasks include standing at a conveyor or rolling table to remove rocks and cull potatoes for meeting grade standards established by the Department of Agriculture. Sitting a cutting table and slicing potato tubers into pieces and assisting with planting and harvesting of potatoes in a field or greenhouse. Person in the role would also participate in cleaning activities, sanitizing surfaces and equipment as needed to ensure program standards are met.


Work Schedule:


Seasonal temporary position typically from mid-March through May, and again early-September through early-November with a max of 1044 hours worked in a calendar year. Work can be part to full time during these periods. Standard work hours are between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday but occasional requests will be made for early evening/weekend work during planting/harvesting periods.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Terminal appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding.


Salary:


Minimum $16.00 HOURLY
