Job Summary
The role of Arts Officer is an important role in Galway City Council. The City Arts Officer will advise and assist in regard to new or existing arts projects and other arts related issues and will have a key responsibility in the planning and management of the Council’s art activities. The Arts Officer will be required to network with a broad range of stakeholders and agencies, governmental, non‐governmental, trade union, business, voluntary, community groups, etc, and will have a vital role to play in maintaining the delivery of a wide range of accessible public services, offering advice, advocacy, initiation of new arts projects and administration of grants and bursaries schemes, and advise around the implementation of the Per Cent for Art Scheme. The Arts Officer may represent the Council on committees and at meetings and may be asked to report on progress in their respective section(s) at Strategic Policy Committee meetings, through the Arts Committee, and directly as requested.
The ideal candidate shall have:
- Ability to act effectively as an advocate for the Arts within an integrated local development agenda;
- Ability in management of:
1) Human Resources,
2) Health & Safety,
- Ability to organise and prioritise work;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Well-developed negotiating skills;
- Excellent e-literacy skills including management of in-house databases, application of developments in website and social media initiatives;
- High level of experience and understanding of strategy development, implementation evaluation, monitoring and marketing of Arts Programmes;
- A sound understanding of the Arts and the local and national infrastructure that influence the arts and broader cultural sector;
- A strong back-ground in building and developing partnerships and alliances with a range of stakeholders;
- Ability to think and express complex issues clearly;
- Be able to demonstrate a strong ability in the following areas – Strategic Ability, Communicating Effectively, and Leading and Motivating;
- Demonstrate relevant administrative experience at a sufficiently high level;
- Satisfactory knowledge of Public Administration and Local Government in Ireland;
- Satisfactory knowledge of the range of public and private supports, available for local Arts development
It would be desirable but not essential for the candidate to have:
A current valid Class B Driving Licence
