RecruitmentPlus are delighted to be working in partnership with the second largest distillery in Ireland to recruit for the position of Assistant Blender for their distillery based in Dundalk, Co. Louth.
This is a growing organisation operating on 24/7 basis and includes a range of Fitters, Engineers, Scientists and Distillers. They operate to international quality and safety management systems (ISO 9001 and ISO 22000). The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting Blending, Quality Control of Blending, Customer Facing and Sample Management at the site and should possess a positive attitude in the presence of the public and work well as part of a team while also showing initiative when working alone.
The distillery produces a diverse range of Irish Whiskey spirit’s including Grain, Triple Malt, Double Malt, Peated Malt and Pot Still Whiskey. The distillery has a current capacity of 16 million litres of Whiskey spirit and it also operates small-scale Gin still.
The role is initially offered on a six month full-time temporary basis with the view to permanency, as such it is an excellent opportunity for both those experienced and those seeking to upskill and build a career with a leading employer in a specialised industry and is open to candidates with various skill sets. Full onsite training will be provided.
Working hours:
Monday to Friday dayshift, some flexibility may be required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reporting and working closely with the Sprit Handling and Quality Managers
- Responsible for assisting with Blending and Product Development on site
- Blending whiskey according to customer/company specification. Monitoring consistency of blend and if there are inconsistencies reporting back to Spirit Handling/Quality Manager
- Assisting with Quality Control and Sensory of New Make & Mature liquids and Final Blended Products.
- Responsible for the compilation, documentation and dispatch of customer samples
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate records of blend recipes, customer sample logs, and dispatched samples/courier documentation
- Responsible for maintaining Health and Safety Standards and best practice at all times
- Assist both the Distillery Manger and Spirit Handling Manager with Customer Facing
- Work very closely with the site QC to maintain all records.
- Blender must be able to be diverse and help in other areas when requested or any other duties set out by Spirit Handling & Quality Managers.
Essential Requirements:
- Blending/Sensory Experience
- Laboratory experience
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Excellent Customer and people skills
- Excellent attention to detail and analysing skills
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
- Must have good communications skills, be a team player and comfortable dealing with customers.
- Self Starter & ability to multi-task and prioritise own work schedule
- Ability to fully carry out instructions given
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Previous drinks industry experience or equivalent
- Sensory Evaluation
- Institute of Brewing and Distilling Qualification/Science/Food Science
- Previous experience working in a warehouse /ATEX /manufacturing environment
- Competence with MS Excel and Word
